Our compromise

Jenny sighed. She knew that Jason wouldn't go down easy. He was from a different culture and a lot of things that are unacceptable for her, are probably very normal things for him. She was glad however that he wasn't trying to push his opinion through and was understanding of her main point of saving herself for her future husband. This was part of the reason she kept boys at a distance. She knew that during a certain age their hormones took over a part of them. She felt it was unfair of her to expect them to wait till they were ready to get married before being able to sleep with each other. Much less expect an engagement before doing most of the other physical things that are part of an normal relationship in the Netherlands and England as well. So she figured she wouldn't meddle in all of that before she thought that the men around her had lost their wild streaks. This time however. An offer for marriage was already on the table. So she couldn't treat this as any normal interaction with a guy who is interested in her. But aside from her principals, she also had a good dose of fear.

All the logic in the world could not get rid of the fact that this was her first possible relationship with someone from the opposite sex. She didn't know what to do, she didn't know what to expect, she simply knew the man in front of her loved her and she had to find out whether she did too. But if she did love him, that is where the real scary part starts. That is the part where she can actually get hurt during this process. What if she opened herself up, only to find her heart broken en shattered in time. But..Jason was probably feeling that way too right? He too had experienced a lot and was probably scared too to show this vulnerable side of himself and open his heart. Not once, but twice. If he was showing courage, how could she not give him the chance he was asking for, just to protect herself. Who knows what it could bring. She was already anticipating the worst case scenario, but it could also turn out great. She could be swept off her feet and experience a once in a lifetime romance. Wasn't that worth a little risk?

So Jenny took a deep breath once more and said with some hesitation "I suppose if we set some boundaries, I would be open to try this your way...But do know that I am nervous and scared of all of this. I don't know what to expect and the fear of the unknown is getting to me a bit. So I hope you can be patient. Let things flow naturally, instead of forcing contact just for the sake of contact. I can't promise you that I won't give you a tough time, but as long as you stick to what we agree upon, I won't hold your actions against you. It is time for me to face some of these fears and I at least know that you have your heart in the right place, so what better time to give it a go. I can tell you this, it is gonna be a push-and-pull" Jenny laughed while saying this last sentence. "I know how I face situations that make me uncomfortable and it isn't pretty. I will push, I will hide, I will run, so prepare yourself for a lot of that".

Jason did not expect her to come around so soon. So he was a bit flabbergasted, but happy nonetheless. "I have come to find that I like a challenge, so don't worry about a thing. I won't go down without a fight. If you push, I will pull you closer. If you run, I will chase you. I hear my stamina is quite good. As for your remaining defense mechanism, if you hide, I will take my time to find you or lure you out of your hiding place. So far you seem very weak to good food and food can be bought with much ease. If there is something I have plenty of, it is money." This time Jason was the one who let out a playful laugh. "How does that sound? Do I sound prepared enough for our week-long battle?" "It sounds like a good start" Jenny said with a giggle. "Well then, I suppose the time has come for us to get started on our compromise my little tigress" Jason said as he provokingly looked over at Jenny, who nodded her head in agreement and returned his look with a playful one of her own.

The hollidays are a perfect time to rest up, get some new inspiration and get to writing. Now that inspiration has come, the time to publish has come as well. Enjoy!
