No right course of action

Jenny and Jason arrived at the planned event when most of the guest were already present. Everyone was chatting and enjoying themselves, when they entered. The entire room fell silent. All eyes were pointed in their direction. They looked like they had walked straight out of a magazine, putting the rest to shame. Compared to them, they might as well have attended in garbage bags. Jenny in her limited edition dress and Jason in his tailored suit looked perfectly matched. He had even worn a matching tie to complete the picture. The room was filled with people with envy and admiration. Those emotions seemed to mix when they slowly stepped down the small steps bringing them to the main floor. Those who were fancying Jason were looking at Jenny with envy and those who were intoxicated by Jenny's beauty felt jealous of the man who had managed to capture her. Whispers took over the room as they moved to greet some people. "Is that the rumored fiance? She looks stunning" "Psh, if I wore a dress like that I would look better than her" "Yeah, look at her being all stuck up. What do those gawking men see in her. As if they have never seen a pretty face before" "It must be plastic surgery or a layer of make up so thick she will have to chisel it off her face tonight" The jealous women laughed as they agreed with each other that Jenny was nothing special.

Jenny paid them all no mind and smiled in their direction, which aggravated them even more. "Why is that woman smiling at us. Is she looking down on us. That arrogant nobody. I will be sure to teach her a lesson this evening or my name isn't Vivian Smith." The woman balled her fist as she said these words before stomping away to the other side of the hall. The other women followed her with their noses in the air, except for the girl who started their conversation on Jenny by giving her a complement. She looked at Jenny apologetically before hurrying after the others.

Though Jenny was standing way too far to actually hear what they were saying, she could spot nasty people from a mile away. She knew that she and Jason would only be staying for an hour or two. After that they would leave for the second party where they would meet up with Harry and the other, so she didn't want to waste too much energy on these bored socialites. Let them boil in their own anger. Kill em with kindness as they say. She knew that if she did anything other than ignore the situation it would make her look bad as well as Jason and her in-laws. If she confronted them or said something back, they would say she is arrogant and obnoxious for causing a scene at the first party she attended. That she shouldn't assume people would care enough about her to talk about her from the get go. If she pretended they had said nothing and would try and mingle with them, they would surely cause trouble for her out of jealousy, which would get her into trouble as well for disturbing her first party. If there was no right course of action, it is best to sit still and do nothing. So that is exactly what she did. She greeted a few people alongside Jason and wore her forced smile all the way till Jason met up with Nick and his parents. She still didn't like Nick all that much and excused herself after some pleasantries. She went to get herself some snacks from the beautifully decorated table that no one seemed to pay any attention to.

She looked over the many beautiful small cakes, the bite size snacks and the many plates with foods from all regions. She got excited just thinking about tasting this food so she grabbed a plate and started stacking everything that caught her eye on it. Jenny had always loved food and being faced with so many delicacies, she couldn't resist the temptation. Forgetting where she was momentarily and not noticing the vengeful woman looking in her direction nor the equally excited child walking carefully in her direction. As Jenny was excitedly enjoying the different foods in front of her, Vivian and her friends looked with anticipation as the small boy with a cake in hand was walking in her direction. As he was focused on his plate as not to drop it, Jenny was too lost in hers to notice him closing in on her. It wasn't until the last moment one of the women called out to her "Miss Charlston, watch out!". Instinctively Jenny turned around and the startled boy bumped into her. The chocolate cake was smeared all over the front of her dress and the boy who had fell on his back after bumping into her slowly started crying. "I-I-I I'm sorry, waah".

All eyes turned to the direction of the commotion and the small boy had started apologizing frantically in between his sobs. As Jenny was still trying to grasp what had happened and how to solve the situation, Vivian took her chance to use this stage to her advantage. "Oh no, look at that. Who knew that Miss Charlston would be able to endure the sad cries of a small child. Doesn't she see that he already feels bad. Why is she bullying him over something like a dress. Really unbecoming of a girl that is supposed to be the future misses Westwood." "Yeah it is true when they say you have to be born into wealth to be able to carry yourself with dignity when spending it. So what if her limited edition dress might be ruined. It is not like the Westwoods can't afford more than one dress", one of her friends chimed in when she understood what she was trying to do. Jason had come to see what was going on when he saw Jenny standing in the middle of the crowd. He was about to go help her when he saw her walking towards the buffet table. Curious to what she was planning to do, he decided to watch on for a minute longer. Though he could instantly resolve this situation, if he were to interfere it wouldn't have the same meaning as when she managed to resolve this herself. So he at least wanted to give her that chance.
