Mother-to-be

Seeing the plus symbol on the display gave Jenny a rush of mixed emotions, which ended with a feeling of joy. Jenny hadn't decided yet whether she should tell Jason yet or if she should wait to surprise him. Making it a fun reveal. When she looked at a few videos online of how other women had revealed it to their partners, she decided on the latter. She wanted to give him the surprise for his birthday and use the first ultra-sound to do so but felt that this wouldn't be fair to him. As that would mean that she would have to keep it hidden for another month and a half. She could use that to reveal the pregnancy to her parent-in-law. For them it would be the first time becoming grandparents. So, they too deserved a special way to be told the news of her pregnancy.

Jenny quickly hid the test so that she could throw it away later. If she threw it in their bathroom bin, there was a chance of Jason finding it or a snooping housekeeper. After that she started planning her reveal for Jason. She usually made sure to visit Jason every now and then aside from seeing him at home. Be it at his office or during lunch at his faculty, once a week they would meet up. She planned on using those visits for her reveal. She wanted to go for a check-up at the hospital to determine how long she had been pregnant for and use the rapport in her plan to surprise Jason.

Since she had a class at the teaching hospital later in the week, she decided to plan her visit to the gynaecologist for the same day, at the same hospital to not disrupt her already tight schedule. Though she could go to a private clinic or consult the Westwood private family doctor outside of working hours or during the weekend but she decided against that idea. She wanted to prevent Jason from finding out one way or another before her reveal and since the family doctor was a Westwood as well and for the private clinic she would have to leave the house when he was present as well, it would be too risky. Therefore she decided that working the appointment in her school schedule was best. That way she wouldn't need an excuse to tell Jason and he would be the first person in the family to find out aside from her.

On Friday the day of her appointment was finally there. Less than a week of her positive test she was waiting outside the office of her teaching hospital's gynaecologist. Nervously she was waiting to be called in to discuss her bloodwork that would tell her the information she wanted to know. After waiting outside for about fifteen minutes a kind looking young lady stepped out and called out, "Mrs. Westwood?" Jenny stood up and walked in, where she stood face to face with a middle aged woman with a gentle smile on her face. "Come on in. Mrs. Westwood was it?" Jenny nodded in reply as she took her seat across from the physician. "You can't be related to THE Westwood family can you?" Jenny smiled a bit awkwardly as she answered her question. "Yes, I am. I married the son of their current CEO." The doctor chuckled. "Well then it seems we have got a famous mother-to-be on our hands. Congratulations Mrs. Westwood. Your test was accurate. You are indeed pregnant and from the bloodwork it seems you are about 4,5 weeks along."

Jenny smiled brightly as she received the news. "Thank you doctor. If possible can I have a copy of that rapport and can I ask you to keep quiet about this matter? I want my husband to find out through me and not the rumour mill." The doctor was a bit surprised by her request but agreed nonetheless. "Of course. I am bound by law to keep my patients' medical information confidential. Including from your husband if you want me to. As for the rapport, I have the digital file. So, you can have this one if you want."

Jenny thanked the doctor and took the piece paper in her hand that had the results of her pregnancy test. After that she left the office and went to her next class that she was already a bit late for. After her classes ended, Jenny started work on the next part of her plan. For that she called Jason but he hung up her call and she got his voicemail instead. Almost immediately after she received a message saying. 'Hi honey. I am in an important meeting at the moment. So, I can't pick up your call. Sorry.' Shortly after a few more messages came in. It appeared that he was worried about hanging up the call as his following messages were filled with questions saying, 'Was it something important? Do you need me to call you back? If so, I can step out the meeting right now.' Before Jenny had a chance to reply another message came in.

'How come you are calling me at this time in the first place? I did tell you that I would be at the office after classes and about this meeting right? Or did I forget?' And again, before Jenny had a chance to send out her first reply, Jason's third message came in. 'I am sorry babe. I must have forgotten. I hope you weren't waiting for me to have dinner? Go eat! I will be home late tonight. I will make it up to you tomorrow. I don't have anything important planned for then. So, I will clear my schedule for you and we will go and have a nice dinner.' Jason had started to apologize before Jenny could even tell him that he hadn't forgotten but that it had slipped her mind. How could she be suffering from pregnancy brain already. Jenny didn't know whether she should laugh or get mad at Jason's responses. He wouldn't let her get one word in but what he was saying was so sweet that there was no way that she could stay mad even if she decided to pick that option.
