Money well spent

Once Jason had a hold on Jenny, he placed a soft kiss on top of her head before lifting her off the ground. Jenny, thinking that he was about to go at it again, looked at him with sharp eyes as she said, "Don't you dare. You have had enough for one day. I need to eat and preserve my energy now so I have some left for tomorrow you brute." Jason didn't respond and simply chuckled at her words before placing her down gently on the bed under Jenny's soft pounding on his chest. Then, un Jenny's curious stares, he walked away from the bed and putt on some clothes to take over the search for food from her. He said, "I'll be right back." to Jenny before going out of the room and leaving her behind on her own. It wasn't until the door fell back into lock that Jenny started smiling as she stared in the direction of the door.

She had pulled up her knees under the covers and had placed her head on her crossed arms that in turn were resting on top of her knees. With her head turned to face the door, she sat there quietly for a moment before lifting herself off the bed for a second time to take a shower to wash off the remnants of the make-up and hairspray that she had used. After she finished in the shower, she returned to the messy room and started picking up the scattered clothes and changed the previously white sheets that were now a multicoloured mess. While Jenny fixed the room, Jason was out to fix their need for food.

As it was quite late already and room service was already closed for the day, they didn't have many options to obtain food. Since they were quite far from the nearby cities, no restaurant would deliver to them. Especially not at this hour and most nearby supermarkets and shops were closed. So, all they could do if they wanted some food was to go to a 24-hour supermarket or pick up some food themselves from a restaurant that was still open. So, Jason had gotten inside the car that Jenny had used to take them to the resort and had driven into the night in order to find him and the missus something light to eat.

After driving to the nearest city and looking around for some twenty minutes, he had found something that seemed perfectly fit for the situation. It was a vegetarian noodles stall, that freshly prepared the food on the spot and allowed you to pick from a wide array of vegetables and herbs to complete the dish. The scent of the broth was already very appealing and with the right vegetable additions to give it some substance, Jason was confident he could get a meal from here that would suit both their tastes. Plus, the stall was manned by an elderly gentleman and Jason felt bad that someone his age was still at work at this time of night. So, he felt that purchasing something from him would be money well spent regardless of whether it was the most high class or best tasting food.

Though England is a wealthy country, that does not mean that poverty does not exist here and this man seemed to be an example of that poverty. When Jason came up to the stall and was greeted with a friendly smile, he and the man started chatting a bit. Something he usually did not entertain. "What is a young man like you doing out here this late at night?", the man asked. "I have a hungry wife waiting for me back in a resort a few miles from here. I couldn't have her go to sleep without eating anything and so I drove out to find something to eat and that drive brought me here."

With a chuckle the man said, "Ha ha ha. Yes, only a woman can make a man go out of the house in the middle of the night. Even I myself am out here out of love for my own wife." Then, as if he only realized Jason's age just now, he asked, "Do people these days still get married so young? I thought we were a dying breed." Before he started telling his own life's story. "I met my wife when we were just sixteen and we got married as soon as we graduated from high school. Back then going to college was something those with money to spare did and the rest of us would just start working and building a family of our own. So, I did just that when I started working right away in my family's restaurant."

As he was preparing Jason and Jenny's meals he continued to tell Jason about his past. "You see, this was the only logical step for me back then and I had never even considered anything else. We have been in the noodle business for as long as I can remember. Being a first generation immigrant and having no formal education to speak of, there wasn't much my parents could do other than using our family recipe to create a living for ourselves. When I became old enough, I was supposed to take over the family business that was by no means a very successful business but it was enough to make a comfortable living." Then a sad look came on the man's face as the story took a turn for the worse.

I actually wanted to name the chapter 'A multicoloured mess' because it had a nice ring to it but it didn't really connect with the rest of the contents of the chapter so, I had to change it. I hope you enjoy the chapter regardless and I will be back tomorrow with two more chapters!
