Lord buzzkill

Angrily Jenny looked at the doctor's back. Though she knew she was right and she shouldn't be chatting during work, it was only for a minute. Was there a need to hit her? And there definitely was no reason for him to bring up the matter of letting her go an hour earlier for her birthday. She ran to catch up with him before letting out her complaint. "Geez, every time I think you are getting kinder, you do things like this. Just because you aren't able to have fun, doesn't mean you have to ruin the fun of others. Lord buzzkill" After that she hurried her steps once more to get in front of him, escaping into the first room they had to visit in order to avoid retaliation. The doctor however was far from angry at her words and simply chuckled as he followed in after her.

The rest of the rounds, Jenny kept glaring at the doctor and making mean remarks, while he tried to hide his laughter. When she wasn't looking and when she wasn't busy making ugly faces at him, he watched her interact with the tenants. Laughing, chatting, caring for them patiently, making his eyes be drawn to her wherever she went. Every now and then, his mind would wander off to the image he saw on the evening of her birthday. She had looked beautiful and the image hadn't left his mind ever since. He kept thinking that he wanted to spend an evening with Jenny when she was dressed up like that for him. Kept wondering, who she had dressed up for that day. Going back and forth between the idea of asking her out and telling himself that she was already taken. Worrying over waiting too long and missing the opportunity or keeping their work relationship intact.

After getting through their rounds, Jenny started working on the charts with hyper speed in order to prove the young doctor wrong. Again the doctor appeared amused, hiding a chuckle as he watched her angry typing. 'How was it that she managed to make him laugh no matter what she did?' Be it happy, sad or angry, his eyes always seemed to follow her. 'Could he really just be colleagues with her without ever knowing if there was a chance at more?' No, no, no, he should get that thought out of his head. He had decided, until he made up his mind he wouldn't say anything at all because acting rashly hardly ever worked out well. With that thought he returned to his computer and started on his own work.

When it was time to end her shift and all the files were in place and processed, Jenny stood smugly in front of the doctor. "Well lord buzzkill, as you can see I can chat and finish my work all in the assigned time. So, unless you have any more tasks for me, I will go home now that my work has been FINISHED without any OVERTIME." The young doctor turned his chair and leaned back as he studied her amusing expression. "I don't have a task, but I do have a request." Jenny did not expect that answer and was visibly surprised. Something which amused the doctor even further as he let out a chuckle. Taking Jenny by surprise once more, as seeing him laugh in front of her was quite a rare sight. "W-what is it?" With a gentle voice and a soft smile he said, "I want you to give me a chance to make it up to you. I have heard your mumbling and I have realized that I was wrong. So, let this lord buzzkill take you out to dinner as an apology, hmm?"

Jenny did not expect this at all and wondered if he was serious. Did he mean just as colleagues or did he have a deeper meaning? After that whole thing with Max, she needed to be sure, but she didn't want to make thing unnecessarily awkward. Jenny looked at him challengingly as she said, "Well, it's not just me you owe an apology. The nurses that were with me, were attacked by your words as well. So, I trust that they will be joining us as well. Or are you regretting your words now and are thinking of ways to back out of your offer?" Nervously she waited for his answer, because depending on his reply she could happily go along or she would have to stand firm. She had asked him about the presence of others during this dinner to determine if this was a date he was asking her on or a work dinner. If they weren't alone, then it wouldn't be considered a date and it would mean that it was just a dinner as colleagues. If he would insist on it just being the two of them, then she could use that as an opportunity to reject him clearly.

Seeing her nervous look the doctor let out another chuckle. Although this wasn't looking too good for him, he wasn't a coward. He wanted to be straightforward about this, no matter the outcome. So, he replied honestly. "You are right. I will treat the others some other time. Today I want it to be just the two of us. After all, you were the only one that got physically hurt. You deserve a bigger compensation than the others." Jenny looked at the floor as she thought of what words to say. After some consideration, she asked him the question that needed to be asked directly and without hesitation. "Are you asking me on a date?"

Here we are with today's chapter. The doctor finally made the first move. Will he go through with it? And will Jenny do what is right this time around? Tommorrow's chapter will reveal it all :D
