Invisible

After the initial awkwardness that Jenny felt during the first class after lunch, the remaining classes went by quite peacefully as Jason shielded her from most of what was being said. By Monday, as predicted, there had been plenty of stories to wash theirs out of the number one spot. Though some were still looking in their direction when they walked the halls, it was no more than the usual stares they got. After that times returned to their normal selves and time passed quickly as they had exams, another festival and Jenny was quite swamped at work as well. Before she knew it the end of the year party at the Westwood mansion had come, which also meant that her birthday was coming near.

As she stood on the balcony, of the beautifully decorated, champagne gold coloured room. Hidden from sight by the dark and the sheer, thin curtains. She glanced back at the guests in the well lit room through the fluttering fabric and watched the impeccably dressed people that were enjoying themselves inside. The guests were a mix of family, friends and close business partners. Jenny had been busy all evening with shaking hands and being introduced to all sorts of people. She had finally earned a break and she wanted to spend this break away from all the chatter. Taking refuge in the silence of the night, she had taken a seat as far away from all the others as possible to take her breather. With a drink in hand and the cool evening breeze blowing on her face she looked into the dark and let the calm wash over her. She wasn't accustomed to these kinds of parties and every time she accompanied Jason to one, she felt overwhelmed. She would constantly be focused on not making a wrong impression on anyone, hoping that she hadn't forgotten any faces of important people she had met before and smiling endlessly. She didn't know how Jason and their friends had managed this for so many years. It seemed downright exhausting, making it almost impossible for her to enjoy herself. Thankfully she still had the food to look forward to, which was always topnotch at these kinds of events.

Jenny had just taken her first sip of her drink, when a pair of warm arms were wrapped around her. "What are you doing here all by yourself? Are you trying to run away?" Jenny chuckled softly as she placed her hand on top of his arms. "And leave you here alone with all those vultures? Never!" Jenny was referring to the young ladies who were eyeing Jason the entire evening even while she was hanging on his arm. Asking him if he would be willing to share a dance with them, offering to get him a drink and some even forcing a plate of food on him with crimson cheeks without asking his permission at all. Though Jenny had just laughed their actions off and Jason wasn't accepting any of their offers or requests, Elizabeth wasn't as kind as she made nasty remarks at anyone who came near their men. If Jenny were to leave, who know what they will do. Her seat would be taken in a matter of seconds.

Jason laughed quietly at Jenny's remark. The vibrations resonating through his chest onto her back. "Were the women at these parties always so daring or is there something I am doing wrong? They treat me like I am invisible or something." Again a low rumble could be heard from behind her. "If you were invisible then what was I this evening? A mad man hugging thin air or just a very good mime player." An exhaled laughter escaped Jenny's side. "I suppose." She replied calmly to Jason's rhetoric question. "But I don't really know. I never noticed them before, much less replied to their advances. I would usually go sit somewhere with the guys and wouldn't have much to do with them. Not many of them were brave enough to come near us, when we were together. The few that were, usually came to regret it shortly after."

This is when Jenny realized it wasn't what she was doing now, but what she had done up till now. Jason was always exuding a 'Don't come near me if you hold your life dear' kind of energy. But since meeting her, a lot of that hostility has disappeared, making him a lot more approachable. Including for those shameless women that were openly flirting with him before. Though she hadn't been able to admit it before, she had felt a bit jealous at their boldness and didn't like how they were trying to sneak in a subtle touch here and there. Jason might have sharp enough senses to notice those attempts and give a look that would make them stop midway, but it didn't stop them from trying again. It was like watching a bunch of flies swarming around a prized cow, who would swash them away before they had a chance to land on him, that would continue buzzing around. A very handsome cow that she loved very much, bringing out a side of her she didn't know she had. Though she was genuinely amused by their approaches, but at some level she understood something Jason had told her some time ago about wanting to lock her up and shield her away from all other eyes. As that was exactly what she wanted to do with him at certain points throughout this evening.

They were interrupted by Harry who was looking for Jason and calling out his name. Jason sighed as he knew that it was time for him to return again. He knew that Jenny wasn't used to these events yet, reading her body language, he didn't take her along and instead took his jacket off. He draped it over her shoulders, shielding her from the wind and placed a kiss on the top of her head. "Don't stay out too long before you catch a cold." and walked away. Leaving Jenny by herself once more. She heard him speaking to Harry who asked where she was and he told him that she must have gone to the bathroom and would return shortly. She smiled internally and was relieved that Jason had covered for her, allowing her to hide for a bit longer and let out a soft sigh as she breathed in the cold night air.

Here we are with today's chapter, marking the beginning of the next event in the story. I hope you enjoy and I will be back here tomorrow with new chapter!
