Impressed

From that day on which Charlie got to meet the twins, he became more interested in Jenny's pregnancy. Asking her different questions every day and even becoming more interested in looking at the baby with the home ultrasound machine that was still in their possession. While Charlie was becoming more and more excited about having one of those cute, soft, little creatures of his own. To play with, look after and protect, just like his uncles and father had told him was the job of a big brother, Jenny's break was over and she started her first day as a real doctor. A day she could now start without worrying about Charlie and the arrival of their second child.

From today on she would be treating patients. Though she would still be specializing and there would be someone checking her work, from today on she would be allowed to work as a real doctor, perform real procedures, help with real operations. Finally she would be able to put her widely praised skills to use and improve them even further. With her bringing her schedule forward, she would no longer be starting work at Harry's family hospital at the same time as him. Her first day as a practicing doctor would be a full month before his first day, meaning she would have to face this exciting and nerve wrecking day on her own. But fortunately, her new colleagues were even more excited than she was.

A group of doctors and nurses were waiting by the front desk to welcome her to the hospital. She was introduced to everyone, including a few other starting doctors, and they were given a tour by one of the doctors who would be their mentor. She got her badge, her scrubs and her white coat along with the gear she would be needing. After that, the real work started really quickly and they didn't get any rest until it was time for their lunch break. When they finally sat down to eat, the two doctors who were new at the hospital like her, used the chance to ask the questions that had been on their minds throughout the day. Because in their case, aside from the interesting patients and the many new faces, there was another thing that their focus was being pulled to.

It didn't take long for the other new doctors to notice that Jenny was different from them. For starters she was the only one receiving special treatment from management. She had been given a private office as the only starting doctor AND she was the only one among them to be noticed and recognized by multiple high level doctors instead of her recognizing them. These senior level doctors were going out of their way to greet her and welcome her, while she fleetingly responded before turning back to the patient they were visiting. Not even attempting to make a good impression or brown nose them at all and they seemed perfectly fine with that behaviour, somewhat impressed even.

Their own feeling of being impressed by this petite, sweet looking woman, started when they noticed her confident air as she walked around the hospital. Despite her age and lack of experience, she walked around as if she belonged. Plus, she was hired at such a high ranking hospital for one of the more competitive specialisations despite her lack of credentials, while they had each obtained a PhD before getting a chance to apply here and had worked as a non-specializing doctor at smaller hospitals for two years. But they got the biggest blow to their ego and gained a new level for respect for her, when they got to watch her during their patient rounds. Being a doctor seemed like child's play for her and she managed to diagnose each and every single patient correctly without breaking a sweat or even blinking twice.

Now that they understood how she could have been hired without any real experience and fresh out of med school and they had been retaught a lesson on how you can't judge a book by its cover, they were dying to know more about her. Using their break time as an opportunity to answer to their curiosity and ask her some questions. So, once they had gotten their food from the cafeteria, the young man and the young woman, both in their late twenties, joined Jenny at her table before they started their own version of twenty questions.

"So, Jenny was it? How does a young doctor without any experience get the chief of staff, the head of surgery and a well renowned endocrinologist to recognize you on your first day and obtain a private office to boot. Do you own this hospital or something? Or is the head of the hospital your father perhaps? That would certainly explain how you lack any fear of offending them." The girl didn't wait for Jenny to answer this first round of questions before asking a question of her own.

"Yeah, how do you know so much? Is your age some kind of scam? Are you actually older than you claim to be? Though I have a hard time believing you are twenty four right now. So, you being even older would be even more unbelievable but I don't have another explanation for you being so confident and good after graduating a month ago. Or could it be that you were some kind of child genius and you actually started med school when you were like sixteen and you only graduated now because you were working as a doctor while finishing your thesis or something." Jenny couldn't help but chuckle at their wild imaginations and although she wanted to have a little fun with it, she decided against it because of Jason's message. He would be coming to the hospital to have lunch with her on her first day and he would be here any minute. Since, that would spill the truth anyways, she might as well tell it to them now.
