Gender reveal party

The day passed by slowly with them receiving messages and calls from all different direction as the word of Jenny's pregnancy spread. Aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, acquaintances, long time business partners. You name it and they received word one way or another. As the day furthered, the well wishes and congratulatory messages didn't only come through phone calls or messages, but had extended to messages delivered through gift baskets, flower deliveries and even pastries of all shapes and sizes. Make Jenny feel thoroughly spoiled.

The days continued to pass by peacefully and Jenny was entering her fifth month of pregnancy while Elizabeth had just finished hers and was making her way into her sixth month. The first few months Jenny's belly was barely noticeable. Only showing a bump if she removed her clothes. But slowly she too began to show signs of a pregnancy as her belly began to grow. She was currently waiting to head into the gynaecologist's office together with Jason for her second ultrasound. She was feeling considerably nervous for this ultrasound because today would be the day that they would get to find out the sex of the baby. The nerves mainly being caused by her being afraid that they would be running into the same troubles as Elizabeth, who was denied an answer during the first attempt of her gynaecologist because the baby refused to turn the right way. Making it impossible to look at the genitals and determine the sex of the baby. She was forced to wait another two weeks with the hope that the baby would be lying in a better position at that time.

Luckily, at that second attempt the baby, resembling his mother in temper, had decided to cooperate and rid his parents of their worries of not being able to start buying what they needed till the end of her pregnancy. Both Elizabeth, Nick as well as both grandparents were overjoyed to hear that she would be having a baby boy. Though Elizabeth had wanted to discover the gender through a gender reveal party, when the doctor had been unable to determine the sex during their second ultrasound and she had to wait another two weeks for an answer, she no longer wanted to wait for a party in order to find out the gender of her own baby. The party was still given as she had already invited her guests but became a party where others would find out the gender instead of she herself as well.

Jenny had decided as well that she wanted to turn the day, that she and Jason were to find out if they were having a girl or a boy, into a party. That is why she needed this ultrasound to go well and for her baby to cooperate, because the bakery was already waiting for their envelope with pink and blue filling. Ready to finish their cake the moment they knew what colour to put in and for them to take it to the house, where their friends and family were waiting for their arrival. Just before she was called in and when she was waiting inside for the doctor to arrive, she took the time to attempt to reason with her unborn child and talked to her belly as if it was a translation machine for her and the baby to communicate with one another. All under Jason's clearly amused gaze and poorly attempted covering of his laughter.

"Now you have been partying in there and jumping on my bladder like you are living in a bouncy house instead of another human body. I won't hold that against you and I will allow you to continue to do so for the remaining months that you are a guest in my body if, and only if, you behave for this one day and allow the doctor to see whether you are a naughty boy or girl. Mommy has a party planned and it would spoil the fun if we weren't able to give them the answer they have come near and far for." After a short moment, without waiting for a reply that would be fairly impossible to come, Jenny shifted her tactic from bribery to guilting her child into behaving well. Moving onto a mixture of threats, bribery and guilt tripping as her one sided conversation went on.

She added, while lying on the hospital bed with her shirt lifted up, "Well, behave for today and if you could help along during the day of the birth that would be great as well. You wouldn't want your mommy to be upset or in too much pain now would you? You have been fairly well behaved so far. The jumping aside, you haven't given me much fatigue or nausea. So, for that I must thank you and consider you to be someone who loves your mother very much and to the best of your abilities. If you want to keep my good impression of you and if you don't want to disappoint your mother so early on, be a sweet child and show us what you are or aren't hiding between your chubby, little legs. This is the only time in your life that it would be appropriate, wanted and even celebrated if you did that in front of a stranger." Jason had long since given up to keep his laughter in and had dropped his face in his arms on the side of the bed as he laughed till his sides hurt.
