First-time parents

It wasn't long before those six weeks had passed and Jenny had reached the twelve week mark, allowing her to get her first ultrasound and to find out if the baby was doing well. The ultrasound would also show if it is just one baby or more than one and if there are any other pregnancy problems. So, during the days leading up to that ultrasound Jenny was quite anxious. On one hand she had to keep her pregnancy hidden from the rest of the family and staff, and on the other hand she had to worry about about the baby in her tummy.

Trying to hide her nausea, which fortunately for Jenny didn't last long and wearing a bit looser clothes for fear that any speculations might begin, she was taking all measure to ensure her planned surprise would be a success. Despite her baby bump barely showing, just like her mother during her four pregnancies. Which had people wonder if she was really pregnant till her mother was almost ready to give birth.

In that time between her revealing the pregnancy to Jason and the twelve week mark to let the rest of the family and their friends in on their little secret, Jason had to work hard to contain his excitement, in order to not spoil the surprise. Though no matter how many times Jenny warned him to stop acting suspicious and no matter how many times people looked at him weirdly, it didn't stop Jason from kissing her belly every day as soon as he came home from work. Whether Jenny was awake or asleep, he always made sure to greet their baby. Even though it wasn't even the size of a bean at that time. By now the baby had grown to the size of a grapefruit and would be showing actual features of a human instead of a vegetable.

Today is finally the day of her ultrasound and Jason had taken time off from work to accompany her. So, this time she wouldn't have to handle the nerves of a visit to the gynaecologist on her own and had Jason by her side for mental support. Jason held her hand every step of the way like a proper supportive husband. When the physician's assistant called the two of them in, Jenny took a deep breath like she had done during her first visit and mentally prepared herself for both good and bad news. Up till this mark there was a lot of uncertainty but after this she could start to enjoy her pregnancy without constant worries.

When Jason gave the kind woman a hand, she lingered in the handshake for a brief moment. Thinking to herself that Jenny hadn't been lying when she told her about the identity of her husband. Here he was, the famous future CEO of Westwood International. The one who had been featured in the 30 under 30 list of Forbes magazine and had been mentioned on plenty of people to watch out for. Though he didn't accept any interviews and kept his private life, including his marital status, hidden for those who it did not involve. She only recognized him from photo's that had been taken during a benefit organized by the hospital. Back then there had been plenty of speculations about who he had taken as a plus one but he hadn't approved of any pictures that contained his wife-to-be. Leaving there speculations as just that. Seeing him so up close in real life, made even a woman of her age get excited and caused her heart to beat a bit faster. As she regained her composure and professionalism, she gestured for both of them to take a seat to explain what they would do.

After the explanation Jenny went over to the bed and tried to control her breathing as she lifted her shirt up, revealing her slightly protruding belly. Jason was holding her hand with one hand, while stroking her hair with the other. As he too contained his nerves. They were both first-time parents-to-be and all of this was very new. Though Jenny had heard a thing or two from Sophia, who had gone before them to that next step of adulthood, hearing about it and going through it yourself are two completely different things.

The gynaecologist returned with the jelly that would allow her to see her baby for the first time and she instinctively tightened her stomach when the cold substance touched her skin. After that she used a small device and rubbed the jelly out across her belly as she applied a bit of pressure. After a bit of searching, she pointed to the small screen next to the bed and said, "Look. There your baby is." Jenny followed her finger to the small, creature that was currently residing in her womb. She looked at its tiny legs and arms. Feeling amazed at how developed it already was and with how much details she could look at it. After giving the two of them a bit of time to look at their unborn child, the doctor continued "It is looking good and nestled in properly. Everything seems fine. The heartbeat sounds strong. Congratulations to the both of you and from now on things should be smooth sailing. Would you like a picture or a 3D-ultrasound? It will not be covered by insurance..." With a chuckle she continued her sentence, "...but I am guessing that money isn't much of an issue with a person like young Mr. Westwood as your husband?" Jenny chuckled along with the doctor before exchanging a single glance with Jason and simultaneously saying "Both!"
