Declaration of War

Jenny walked forward as she kept her eyes on the handsome man that was standing next to Jason and George. Once she reached them, Jason quickly introduced them. "Jenny come quick, I want you to meet one of my close friends Nick Richards. Just like George and Harry, I have known him for more than 10 years. He was living in America these past two years, because of his father's business. He just told me he has moved back" "Is this your beautiful bride? Nice to meet you." Jenny showed him a small smile and shook his hand. Even though she knew he was Jason's friend, she somehow felt like he couldn't be trusted. Like something was off about the way he was staring at her and the way he was smiling. If she didn't know any better, she would think that he was into her or something. She shook off that feeling and instead went on to enjoy her party. It wasn't long before she started to feel hungry. Just as she was thinking this and bringing her hand to her belly, someone from the staff stepped up to the stage and asked for everyone to return to their seats as dinner was about to be served. She could smell the food from the direction of the inner hallway and she got excited by imagining the dishes her mother-in-law had picked out. By the time the first course was brought out, Harry and Julia returned. They were both looking around a bit awkwardly when they returned to their seats. Jenny couldn't help but let out a chuckle, that she tried to hide behind her hand, at the sight of both of them. She was happy. It seemed like they had managed to talk some of their issues out and her interference hadn't been in vain.

Jenny felt like she could finally relax. Her nerve wracking first dance had passed successfully, her talk with Harry went well and it even seemed like it had served it's purpose. But before she could let out the breath she was holding in, the hairs at the back of her neck stood up as she heard an all too familiar voice. She turned around to find what she had feared, was the truth. Did this woman have no shame? How could she come to her and Jason's engagement party, when neither of them had forgiven her for what she had done and tried to do. She tugged at Jason's pants underneath the table, while trying to maintain an unaffected expression on her face. When he turned to look at her, she whispered "How come Elizabeth is here? Did you invite her?" Jason turned around and saw her sitting at another table with her parents. "I don't know. My mom probably forgot to take her off the guest-list. Want me to ask her to leave?" "No, I don't want to embarrass your parents or her parents for that matter. I just didn't think she would have such thick skin to actually come to our engagement. Seems like her love for you wasn't as great as she claimed or else how could she stand a party in honor of your relationship with someone else." Jenny laughed as she said this and poked a little fun at Jason. Jason returned her smile with a smirk of his own, grabbed the hand that had tugged at his pants and said "Well do you want me to and test how great it is in person?" "If you want to change the bride that will be facing you on your wedding day from me to her, then by all means Mr. Westwood". Despite Jenny's face showing a smile, Jason felt a chill with murderous intent at the back of his neck. He chuckled and squeezed her hand a bit to relieve her of the anger he felt coming from her body language.

The rest of dinner went by peacefully and they didn't pay any more attention to their unwanted guest. After dinner it was time for another round of music and dancing, but this time the classical music instrument players were exchanged for a famous band, well know for their accurate covers of many good party songs. The first song they played already was one of Jenny's favorites and she didn't hesitate to drag Jason onto the dance floor. He didn't have time to react and almost fell from the unexpected force he was dragged with. That tiny girl, sure packed a lot of power. Soon they were joined by Harry, Julia, George and his fiance Sophia. Even Nick had already managed to score a date and was joining them happily. After dancing for six songs straight, Jenny needed to take a unwanted break. She was feeling so hot and she felt like she was sweating all over from all the jumping and turning she had done. She went to the bathroom to wash her face and cool down a bit. Just as she was about to dry her face with a steamed towel, someone else came in. That person was none other than Elizabeth. "Hmph, you must be feeling proud. Well as long as you remember, just because you can make him ignore me at school, doesn't mean you can exclude me from social events as well. Our worlds have gotten way too intertwined over our years of friendship, for you to prevent me from seeing Jason. And you had better bring your A-game when you join him, because I sure will. That's what you get when you try to push someone to the edge, they won't have anything left to lose." Elizabeth reapplied her lipstick before leaving, but not before saying "I look forward to the next time we meet." Though the words, when taken out of context, would be considered sweet. However combined with her condescending look, her crossed arms and provoking smile, one could see it for what it truly was, a declaration of war!
