Comfort zone

After Jenny's moment of braveness and the physical expression of her appreciation that followed, it seemed that Jason's mood was lifted. Jenny didn't understand what had gotten his emotions to go up and down so much lately but in a way she was happy that he was able to show his childish and weak side to her more naturally now. For as long as she could remember it was always her that had her heart pulled in all kinds of directions, with him only falling once in a blue moon. But now their roles had actually been reversed, putting her in the position of being the person making the first move to better the situation. She was able to show some of her braveness in other departments of the relationship outside of the ones that usually fell under her care, essentially reversing their roles there as well.

Only during these times would she be forced to come out of her comfort zone and do the giving instead of her usual taking. Even if some of these things did come more easily for Jason, he too was in his first real relationship and would need some assurance every now and again. Even in matters she least expected. Especially when they were traveling across such uncharted territory for the both of them, while still maturing themselves in many ways as well. Each of them had their strengths but doubting yourself occasionally was common in the best and the longest of relationships and should therefore not be so surprising in their relatively young one. When the other was having a moment of doubt or weakness, it was the job of the other person to take on the task of giving assurance and strength to their significant other. When they couldn't do what they usually did, it was up to the other to step up to the task. Just like Jason had taken over the comforting of their son for Jenny during her brother's wedding, she had taken over the initiation of their couple time.

It was this, including the unexpectedness of it all and Jenny putting such effort in being the one to pull them back to a good place, that had flipped his switch. Not just her effort of this time but those few times before in last couple of weeks had all built up into one big effect. Having seen that Jenny hadn't dismissed his desire for a second child and was thinking about it and him in her own way, gave him the push in the back he needed to revert to his old self, which was a good thing because even though their second child might be far away, the birthday of their first child was just days away.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This year Jason would be doing most of the planning and preparing as Jenny was too busy for such a big task. So, while Jason was running all around between life at the office and the party planning, Jenny was doing the running around in the hospital and with their lovable son. Last year they had already done a lot but had tried to be as modest as they could about it as they felt Charlie was too young to comprehend what was going on. But he had proven this past year that he was aware of a lot more than they had given him credit for. So, this year they would be going all out. Planning to fully spoil the boy who had been nothing short of being the perfect son for them. With all their friends and family members coming to visit for the occasion and plenty of them choosing to spend the night this time around, they would have some hectic and crowded days ahead but it would all be worth it for their precious son.
Both Jenny and Jason had arranged to be off on the days around his birthday in exchange for working the popular holidays. Though Jason didn't need to exchange the days for anything but Jenny did, since she needed to make her hours for her internship within the same term. With Jenny being away at the hospital, there was no point in him being at home. Being alone with so many relatives boring him with details of their lives and trying to meddle into his was not his idea of fun. He only tolerated it all for Jenny's sake, who was always pushing him to have more of a relationship with his family. But if she wasn't going to be there to provide him with relief every now and then, he might as well be the one to attend the multiple business parties that were being arranged around that time of year and throw himself on his work. It was a perfect excuse to not have to spend time having useless conversations and instead use his time more meaningfully. Though he was certain that those parties would also lose a lot of their charm with Jenny not being the partner by his side.
Having been on a full week of quality time just recently and knowing that these problems would only last one more year, there was no need for either of them to worry about having to spend the holidays apart. They wouldn't be fully apart anyways because when the day would end and they would return home, the other person would be waiting for them with the type of smile they only reserved for each other. Giving them a private celebration instead of the none at all that everyone seemed to hear whenever they told them about their Christmas plans.
