Class representatives

The name Jenny picked was that of Max Hoffman. He was a nice looking guy who seemed to have a lot of friends in this class. Though he was no Jason, he was quite popular among the girls himself. Once they were seated they introduced themselves to each other and Jenny saw why he was so popular. He was very friendly and wasted no time to reduce the awkward tension by making jokes. No matter how Jenny tried to keep her distance from him for Jason's sake, Max kept breaking through her barriers with one joke after the other. Their senses of humor were quite the same, making it easy for them to get along.

Elizabeth, who was sitting at the back of the classroom and was watching the two of them interact, had been more successful in keeping her deskmate at bay. Despite the boy clearly being interested in her from the very get go, Elizabeth used her former Ice Queen antics to silence him. She didn't even allow the poor boy to introduce himself as she raised her hand in front of his face and said, "Let me stop you right there. I am not interested in you or your name. I am sitting next to you because I have to and not by choice, so let's just each do our own thing and not turn this into a bigger thing than it is." The boy was flabbergasted and didn't dare to say anything more to her as she continued to observe Jenny and the guy sitting next to her chatting and laughing. Elizabeth's deskmate saw that there was no chance of Elizabeth turning her attentions to him so he proceeded to divert his attention to the girl behind him instead. As boys and girls were made to sit cross from each other as well.

Jenny was too kind for this method and thus had gotten herself more involved than she had wanted. While they working on their assignments for homeroom, Max kept showing her silly drawings he had made, was doing impressions of some of the teachers they both apparently disliked and used whatever methods he could think of to get Jenny's attention. Homeroom was almost done when matters for Jenny became worse.

"Alright everyone, can I have your attention again please. As I said, we still need to appoint this years class representatives. Do we have any volunteers?" Being the class representatives was not something people were jumping to be, unless they needed it to improve their resume. It was nothing but extra work and no one felt like taking on those responsibilities. Considering that most of them came from wealthy families with their own companies, something like improving your resume wasn't a top priority for them. So instead of enthusiasm, the class was filled with a stifling silence, where everyone stared at their desks to avoid eye contact with the teacher. All for fear that they would be put on the spot or chosen involuntarily instead.

When no one volunteered the teacher changed his tactic and said, "Well if no one will volunteer, I will appoint someone instead." With that, the thing the people staring at their desks were dreading, had been announced. Like it was a hostage situation, no one dared to move and froze in their positions and seats. The teacher glanced over the different faces in the class and settled at a desk at the front. The desk he had landed on was Jenny and Max's desk. "Ah, you two. What are your names?" Every student in the class looked up to see who the teacher was talking to and sighed a breath of relieve once they saw that it wasn't them. Jenny and Max were both startled by the teacher's question. Not because it was such a weird question, but because they hadn't been paying as much attention as they should have been. Jenny was texting Jason whose class had been dismissed early and had been asking her about how her first class had gone. Max on his end was doodling in his notebook.

With a bad feeling and much reluctance Jenny and Max told the teacher their names. After that the teacher turned back to the class and said, "Students, meet your class representatives. Max and Jenny. Give them an applause." The other students cheered and applauded as they had dodged that bullet and were happy for anyone who saved them from that dreadful job, while Jenny was pale faced and shaking her head to say no. She hadn't even figured out how to tell Jason that she was sitting next to a guy and was actually getting along with him. How was she supposed to reveal to him that she would have less time to spend with him, because she had to help prepare for class and write the class journal everyday with that same guy!

Jenny raised her hand and asked, "Sir, I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention, but is there anyway for you to pick someone else? I don't think that I can be a class representative. I'm sure there is someone more suited for this task. Or maybe we can vote or pick names randomly?" "I just did pick randomly. If you wanted to decide the class representatives in a different way, you should have spoken up before. Now that you are the one that has been picked, you have a problem with the process. I will not turn my decision around. No exceptions miss Charlston. As you saw before, no one volunteered. That means no one wants to be or thinks they can be the class representative. If I say okay to you, it will be unfair to the next person picked and it will force me to do the same for them. Making this a never ending story. So, unless you have a good reason for not being able to be the class representative, you should simply blame fate for making my eye land on you two. Class is dismissed!"

It seems like Jenny got herself in a new predicament. How will Jason respond to this news and how will she break it to him? Or will she find a way to back out?

This is it for today and I will be back here tomorrow with a new chapter. I hope you enjoy and I want to thank Humaira_Jarjisa for her continuous support in the comment section :D.
