Challenge and practice

No sooner said than done, the day for Jenny and Jason to babysit little Sam had arrived. "Elizabeth just texted me. She and Nick will be here in ten minutes with Sam." Jenny said before taking a deep breath. "I'm getting more nervous by the minute. How can you be so calm, leaning against the wall over there like that. Are you that sure we will be able to handle this?" Jason put an arm around Jenny and used his hand to rub up and down hers in order to comfort her as he said a few reassuring words. "We will be fine. Sam is still so small that he will be mostly sleeping while he is under our care. All we need to do is change him a few times and give him a bottle every so often. Before you know it, it will be nine o'clock and they will be back to pick him up."

Jenny looked nervously towards the door as she waited for the precious little cargo that was on its way over. "I hope it will be as easy as you say and that we are able to get through today without any hiccups. Otherwise it won't be making me feel more prepared for what's to come but even more nervous." Jason let out a soft, low chuckle and placed a kiss on Jenny's temple. "No matter how much you worry or how today goes, that is something you can't stop or reverse." He said as he pointed at Jenny's belly. "Our baby is coming in a weeks time, whether we like it or not and whether or not we feel prepared. So, instead of worrying about all the ways today can go wrong, we should try to enjoy it and learn as much as we can."

Jenny looked up sideways towards Jason's face and saw that it was as confident and calm as it was a few minutes ago. Seeing him like this, hearing those words, Jenny started feeling herself calm down as well. Her calming down hadn't come a moment too soon, because just as she placed her hand on top of Jason's in her self-embrace, she heard the doorbell ring. Causing her hand to tense up immediately, squeezing Jason's hand in the process, who couldn't help letting out another chuckle at Jenny's jumpy reaction. With an amused voice he said, "It seems our little guest has arrived. Let's go let him in. So we can all start our plans for the day." Jenny nodded silently. Taking one last deep breath, Jenny made her way over to the door along with Jason and put on a brave smile before she opened it.

Elizabeth and Nick wasted no time of their precious 'day off' and left as soon as they had handed over the bottles of breastmilk and other necessities along with their precious little boy, whom they were very willing to miss for the next few hours. In less than five minutes they had come in, dropped Sam off, had said their hellos and thanks and had made their way back out of the door. Ready to start their day together. The kind of day they hadn't had in a long time and felt like they hadn't had in forever. Their plans would start with a couple's massage, then they would have brunch at a fancy hotel, before going to see a movie and they would end the day with a nice long dinner before going back to pick Sam up. The moment the door closed, a day of leisure began for one couple, whereas a day of challenge and practice began for the other.

With a tiny human sleeping peacefully on top of the salon table in his portable baby car seat, Jenny looked at Jason as she asked "What now?". Jason walked over to Jenny and said, "Now we wait and enjoy the silence while it lasts." Jenny finally chuckled as she nudged Jason in his side for his silly jokes. Though it may have been somewhat of a joke, Jason was right. Because they soon found out that a moment of silence doesn't last long with an infant of less than a month old. Just thirty minutes after Nick and Elizabeth had left, the first call for their attention came as baby Sam was in need of a clean diaper. With neither having changed a diaper on something other than the dolls during their parenting classes, they both looked at each other in hopes that one of them would volunteer before they decided to tackle their first challenge together.

A bit nervously they stood above baby Sam, whom they had placed on top of the sofa with one of his own blankets underneath him. They started by pinning the little guy in between the back of the sofa and one of the decorative pillows in order to prevent him making a sudden movement and falling off onto the ground. After a few seconds of careful consideration, Jenny said with newfound determination, "Okay, we will do this just like during class. One of us will sit over by his head and keep him occupied and holding his feet up, while the other cleans up and slips the clean diaper on." Jason nodded, before taking his position and proceeding to do what he was tasked with. Just before Jenny took the dirty diaper off, Jason made her stop by holding back her hand as he called out "Wait!"

The weekend is here and so is today's first chapter and the second one will be out right after!
