Buried deep inside

Now that it was apparent that Jenny had find out about him losing an important investor in that period, he needed to come clean with her to prevent any more damage to Jenny. Though it had been mainly because he had dropped the ball, as he shouldn't be affected so easily by his everyday life, not when a fight between him and Jenny would be the least he would have to face in life. If they had children in the future, that would pose much bigger distractions and challenges. So, he couldn't pin all of that on Jenny's behaviour. If anything it had opened his eyes, before he got into the really important stage of his plan. However, he also knew that Jenny wouldn't see it like that and would take what had happened to heart.

"How did you find out about that?"

"I don't think that is important right now. Can I take your lack of denial as a confirmation?"

Jason cast his eyes down when he gave Jenny an answer. "Well, although I don't consider it your fault, it is true that I ran into some trouble during that time. My mind was preoccupied with you and I wasn't able to sleep well, which caused me to not pay as much attention to matters as I usually would have. That neglect caused me to almost have a data breach, causing one of my investors to pull out." Jason's eyes jolted back up as he waved his hands in front of his body in denial. "But I already made up for that loss. So, don't worry about any of that."

Hearing the words from earlier confirmed by Jason himself hurt Jenny more than she thought it would. That situation and what he had gone through had made her feel plenty guilty back then. Now that she had heard that she had caused indeed caused him trouble, even if it was indirectly, she felt another sharp stinging pang of guilt.

"I see. Well I am glad that you managed to make up for it. Let's stop the questioning and get ready for bed instead." Jenny said with a smile.

"Are you sure? A lot was sprung on you today. I can imagine you having more you want to ask. I don't mind. How ever long it takes, no matter how late it becomes, I want to set your mind properly at ease."

Jenny shook her head. "No. Maybe I will think of some more tomorrow. For now, I want to to bed." With that she turned back around and continued wiping off her make-up while swallowing back the questions buried deep inside her heart. Seeing that Jenny didn't plan on discussing this any further, Jason got up and a bit doubtful he headed into the bathroom. Thinking he would leave the starting of his responsibilities at the office before September, as they had discussed, for tomorrow. Hoping she would have given today's information a place by then.

After that Jenny did the same and they got into bed as usual. But while Jason fell asleep in a matter of moments, Jenny lay in bed wide awake. Despite Jason's comforting words and him repeatedly telling her not to worry about what had happened. That it was all in the pas now and that everything had worked out in the end, the words she had heard earlier started haunting her again as she laid in bed in Jason's arms. Making her unable to fall asleep. The questions she had forced herself to keep inside, were mixing in with the words of those wretched people. Gnawing on her with each passing minute.

'Did you ever regret getting engaged to me?' 'Don't you ever wish that you had chosen someone that could help you on your path to become CEO?' 'Won't you leave me, even if I never become useful to you and even if I continue to cause trouble?' She hadn't asked these questions because she could already imagine his answer. He would never hurt her willingly. He would sacrifice everything for her. He would tell her that all he needed was for her to stay by his side. That was just because he had gotten used to her being around. He didn't think about what opportunities he was missing out on because he was with her. He was too young and she was his first love. But till when was that going to last? When would he realize what he could have had? How could she just stand by and watch him struggle when he could take an easier path if she would be willing to take a step to the side.

This time she had caused a problem he had been able to overcome, but who knows what would happen if Jason continued to stay with someone like her. What if she would ever cause a problem in the future that couldn't be so easily fixed and would jeopardize what he had worked for since he was a little boy? What would she do then? She would never be able to forgive herself. She had said to herself that she had never taken any steps to help Jason, maybe the way for her to help him would be to leave his side and allow someone better to take her place. So that he could focus on his goal without having to worry all the time about someone like her. Wouldn't that be better for everyone? She had been able to live this fairy tale for over a year. Maybe it was time to wake up now and return to real life.
