Bun in the oven

As Jason closed the door behind him he said, "Sorry to keep you waiting Jenny. But you should know that me being late is partially your fault." With a chuckle he explained to Jenny who looked at him with amused eyes and replied with an, "Oh..?"

"Yes, it was your messages that got me in trouble. Causing me to get a talking to from my father about my behaviour at work." Jenny chuckled at the image of Jason getting into trouble and said with wink, "Sorry. I will make it up to you with that dinner you promised me when you thought you were in trouble." Jason pinched Jenny's cheek for her cheeky reply and took his seat at the sofa across the table with their lovely looking dinner. But before he had a chance to take a single bite of the food, Jenny took the papers she had gotten from his assistant and held them in front of him. "Your assistant asked me to get you to sign these ASAP. So, I told him that I would have you look these over during dinner." Jason let out an "Ugh" before he said, "You are such a Spartan. Can't you even let me enjoy my food before putting me back to work?" Jenny handed him the files as she took a seat beside him and put some food on a fork to feed Jason. With a chuckle she said, "No, I can't have you losing this job because you neglected it for me. I have become accustomed to spending your money and I am unwilling to lose my current lifestyle and spending habits."

Jason took the bite she was holding out for him and chuckled because he knew that since he had gotten together with Jenny she had barely spent a dime of the money he had given her access to. All the money that had been spent on her, had been done by himself under her protest. But since she was willing to feed him the food she had brought, he didn't fight her on the matter and got started. Thinking that usually looking over three files and signing them took him maybe ten minutes. That much he could give up to help her complete the favour she had promised someone. But he would have a chat with his assistant after Jenny had left for making that request in the first place. But as he flipped over the case of the first file, Jenny's test paper fell out from in between.

When Jason bended over to pick the piece of paper back up and glanced at the information he became confused for the second time that day. "What is a medical form doing in between my files?" His confusion became mixed with a dose of surprise as he read the name on the file and saw that the person it belonged to was Jenny. He looked around to Jenny but she pretended like she didn't know a thing about what was going on. When he actually read the contents of the form his confusion was soon lifted and replaced by shock and joy. He turned to Jenny once more with a hopeful smile, "Is this real...? Am I going to be a dad?"

Finally Jenny broke the poker face she had on and nodded with a big, bright smile to let him know it was indeed true. Jason jumped up from his seat and almost flipped the table with the food over in his excitement. He hugged Jenny tightly before grabbing her face between his two hands and pressing a loud kiss on her lips. "Muah! Jenny this is such good news!" He let go of her to make a one armed yes movement as he tried to take it all in.

Once his initial excitement simmered down and he had looked at the test results a few more times to make sure it was real, he asked Jenny "How could you fool me this way? Since when have you known you were pregnant?" Jenny chuckled and was happy to see that her surprise had been a success. "I wanted you to find out in a special way as well. Other than me simply telling you. I took a test earlier this week. When it came out positive I made an appointment with the gynaecologist. I went to the doctor this morning and came to you as soon as my classes were over. I am apparently 4,5 weeks along. So, it appears that your grandmother's wishing helped after all because by my calculations it happened that Christmas morning." Jason was overjoyed with the news. It felt like everything was coming together. The company was doing well. In a few weeks he would become the official vice president and now he was starting his own little family with Jenny. What more could he ask or wish for in life?

"I am still undecided about if I should go with my reveal plan for telling your parents and my mom or if I should just tell them now." A bit distraught Jason, who was staring at the pregnancy form as if it was a most valuable treasure, turned to Jenny with a "Hmm?". Indicating he hadn't been listening to her. After letting out a small sigh and repeating her words, Jason asked "What did you have in mind then?" Jenny let him in on her plan of using the picture of the first ultrasound and having it printed on the second page of a booklet with a recipe on it for buns. I will put it in a box with all the ingredients needed and a note with the text 'Follow my instructions for a big surprise' have them follow the instructions. When they turn the front page over, the back will have the line 'Bake for six more months and you will become ...' On the front of the first page will be the picture of my ultrasound with underneath the line '... a grandparent.' "But maybe that one is better for your grandmother, considering she was the one that made the 'bun in the oven' remark in the first place. I could also give them all kinds of grandparent merch and the picture of my ultrasound at the bottom of the box. There are so many options and they all seem such fun to execute."

Jason smiled gently as he watched Jenny go through the different plans and patted her head when she seemed a bit disappointed at the thought of not being able to act out what she had come up with. He told her, "It is your pregnancy honey. You are the one that has to carry the child for nine months. You are the one who has to suffer the swollen ankles, the morning sickness, the fatigue and the birth. So, if you have to to go through all that, you deserve a little fun with it as well." With a chuckle he added, "I won't tell a soul. So, knock yourself out my dear!"
