Break the odds

After a restless night due to overeating, Jenny and Jason awoke in their bed at Prism mansion. After pushing Jason's grandmother's words out of her mind yesterday, they had come back to haunt her last night and now again this morning. Jenny was a bit at a loss at what she was supposed to do. Just brush it aside as a joke, address privately or properly consider. She had already started her second year. Maybe getting a head start at the baby making process wasn't such a bad idea? The best way to stop the jokes would be to give her what she wants. She has made that baby joke of hers so many times now, including on her birthday card last year, that it was unlikely of there not being some real feelings behind those words.

As she sat up on the bed, Jenny grabbed Jason's hand who was lying next to her. Though he had his eyes still closed, when he felt the brooding in Jenny's mind, his eyes opened and he sat up as well. He put his arm around her and asked, "What is on your mind so early in the morning?" Jenny turned her head to look at his sleepy face and said, "It's nothing much but your grandmother's words started bugging me again. So, I was thinking of what to do about it. I have given myself three options so that I can stop allowing those words to give me any more stress two options are proving somewhat of a problem in real life. Because even if I want to say something about the jokes, fact remains that she is your grandmother and I do love her. So, I don't want to offend or hurt her with my words. After so many times, treating it like a joke is kind of hard to do as well. So, I am left with my last option."

Jason decided to indulge Jenny. Seeing that it was bothering her enough to be upset about it first thing in the morning meant that he should do something about the situation. Plus, he was a bit curious to what her third option could be. So, he asked, "Which is?" With a straight face Jenny replied, "The last option I thought of is just giving in and giving her what she wants. Meaning we would start trying to have a baby. So, that next Christmas I can hand her over what she has been asking me for four times now already." Not sure if Jenny was joking or being serious Jason started laughing. When she didn't start laughing as well, he looked at her for a moment before saying "Are you being serious?" Jenny shrugged her shoulders. "Why not? We did say we wanted a baby somewhere around our third year. If we start now, we can make that happen. That way we solve both matters."

Jason let out another deep chuckle. He stroked her head as he said, "Silly, why would you worry about things like this. I can't say there isn't a hint of truth in my grandmother's joke. She is very fond of both you and me, and is therefore looking forward to meeting our children even more than meeting her great-grandchildren in general. So, instead of an unwanted pressure you should consider it a compliment of an overly enthusiastic woman who knows no boundaries. If it really bothers you, I will have a talk with her and ask her to dial the baby jokes down a bit. If you want to start the baby-making process, I will gladly participate in that as well. So, the choice is yours. If you really feel like now is the right time, we can start right away. There is still plenty of time before breakfast."

After saying that, Jason lifted the covers over the two of them and pulled Jenny back down. Under cheerful shrieking, she put her arms around his neck and returned his kiss. Under the pastel coloured sheets, one thing led to another and what had started as somewhat of a joke, was soon turned into reality. Though they weren't actually planning on expanding their little family at that moment, turning his grandmother's wish in reality, but fate seemed to have another plan for them.

You see Jenny had stopped taking her birth control pills because it was said that it could take six months to a year to get pregnant after stopping. Since they wanted to start having a family in the near future, they decided it was best that she would stop in advance so that they could start whenever they felt ready. But today they would be proving that a happy little accident is in a small corner. Because even though Jason was wearing protection and Jenny was on birth control until just a month ago, they were about to be one of the 'lucky' small percentage of people that manage to break the odds. Meaning that as Jenny was having breakfast with the family, she was already pregnant at that very moment. Not even knowing it herself. Much less anyone else.

Weeks after that Christmas morning, Jenny was starting to show symptoms that she was at the beginning blaming on other factors of her life. Blaming her fatigue on a lack of sleep, and not noticing her period being late because she was too busy. Even when she did, she thought it was probably because she had been feeling stressed and didn't think much of it. It wasn't until she had a nausea that wouldn't go away and felt soreness at her breasts that she secretly took a pregnancy test. A test that turned out to be positive. Putting her in the same position as Elizabeth, just weeks before.
