Blinded

Jenny stood frozen to the ground with Madeline's scarf in hand and a look of disbelief. Jenny saw Madeline's scarf lying on the floor and thought that she might have wanted it back and as lunch was coming to an end, she decided to bring it to her before she would forget. Not expecting to walk into a scene like this. What had she just heard? Did Max just say 'Be a couple for real' and 'I don't care' to the girl he supposedly loved and was dating? Was the guy she had fought over with Jason, the person shouting at his crying girlfriend and calling her a 'mess'? Was this what Elizabeth and Jason had been talking about?

Max hurried over to her and immediately tried to salvage the situation. He didn't know how much she had heard, so he could only guess and try not to give anything away himself as he tried to make his way out of this mess. "Jenny, what are you doing here? It wasn't what it looked like. We just had a fight, that is all. He. He. He." But Jenny looked up with an icy glare that could freeze a person's soul instantly. "Stop your excuses and lies. Tell me, what did you mean with 'Be a couple for real'? Why wouldn't you care about her being upset, Hmm?! Didn't you claim that you loved Madeline? Didn't you tell me all about how you guys became boyfriend and girlfriend? Was that all a lie!?"

Having been caught red handed, Max sighed and decided to come forward in hopes that the 'truth' could help him out. "Look, yes, Madeline and I aren't together and we aren't in love. But that was the only way you would allow me to still be friends with you. So, what was I supposed to do?" Jenny was astounded and felt like putting her hands in her hair out of frustration and anger. "So, you thought you could fix it by lying to me!? You betrayed my trust on every level and you even let me fight with Jason over you." Suddenly her eyes turned questioningly, "That was your intention all along wasn't it? Jason did get tricked by you." Taking his silence as admittance she raised her voice once more, "How could you!?" As she looked at the ground and thought of what she had done she said, "I was a fool for trusting you and protecting you. Poor Jason, he got dragged into this mess because of me. I even told him to trust me, but it seemed that I indeed didn't deserve his trust. I was blinded." She turned back to face Max, who by now felt all of his hard work crumbling down, "Blinded by you!" She threw Madeline's scarf in his face and stormed off.

With large steps, the largest she could take with her small stature, she walked back to where they had been sitting. She grabbed her stuff and instantly made her way inside. Without stopping to take a breath she went looking for Jason. Walking through the student-filled halls and her heart pounding anxiously as she made her way to where she thought Jason would be having his lunch. When she was about a hundred meters away from him, she saw him walking out of the cafeteria. He was walking side by side with Harry, Nick and George followed closely behind by Julia and Elizabeth. Seeing him chatting with Harry happily, her chest tightened and started beating even faster. The moment she saw the unsuspecting Jason, who was facing to the side as he was walking towards her, she increased her walking speed even further and didn't stop till she reached him. When she was close enough to him, she threw herself in his arms. The moment she held him in her arms, her anxiousness dissipated and she felt instant calmness. Like she had finally returned where she belonged.

Jason was clearly caught off guard, almost losing his footing from his little pouncing tigress. Though he couldn't believe it, he didn't need to look to know who had just thrown herself on him. There was only one person brave enough, there was only one person that could have such a perfect mix of sweet and fresh smell that instantly filled his nose, there was only one person that made his heart skip a beat like that. Still when he looked to confirm that it was who he was convinced it was, his immediate reaction was not to hug her back, but to ask, "Jenny? What's wrong?" But Jenny didn't say anything and just kept holding onto him tightly.

Seeing that Jenny had no intention of answering his question right now, he decided to focus on the more important thing. That she had returned to his arms. This was when his face softened and he folded his arms around her small frame enveloping her completely in his embrace, hiding her from the curious eyes of the perplexed students that filled the halls and their own friends who didn't understand what was going on. When the friends saw him hugging Jenny, they decided to give them some private time and made their way to class. Each of them glanced happily at the two of them, patted Jason on the back or clasped their hands together from joy. They were truly happy for their friends. However the rest of the nosy people didn't seem to know when to look away, but all it took was a single look from Jason to scare them all away. Leaving them in their tiny, quiet bubble, reunited at last after what felt like an eternity.
