Birthday wishes

In a flash it had become January third and it was the day of Jenny's birthday. Jason was standing by the bed and gently sat down beside Jenny who still sound asleep. He wanted to surprise her, so he had gotten up early to bake her a birthday cupcake. Though till now he had only prepared dinners for Jenny, he figured there was no harm in trying. Jenny had always loved his cooking and besides how difficult could baking be? That was what he had told himself when he decided on this plan, but when he actually started he had to take some of those words back. He had gone all out as he had not only made the cupcake, but also the frosting and decorations himself. For that he had gotten up at six in the morning and he wasn't done until almost an hour later. He discovered that baking was a lot more difficult than cooking, but if Jenny liked it, it would be worth the effort. Now it was the 'moment suprême'. He used the lighter he had brought to light up the candle and started trying to wake Jenny up as gently as he could as she was not a morning person and he didn't want her to wake up with a bad mood on her birthday.

He started by stroking her hair gently and brushing the strands of hair, that had fallen over her face during her sleep, behind her ear. This seemed to do the trick as her face started twisting up a bit and a crease started to appear between her brows. He lowered himself to place a small kiss on her lips and said, "Wake up sleepyhead." Jenny reluctantly forced her eyes open and once she did, she saw Jason looking at her with a gentle smile. He was holding a beautifully decorated cupcake and a single candle with a blue flame, her favourite colour. He had left the blackout curtains closed to let the flame shimmer at it's brightest. Though she had gotten her first birthday wishes at midnight before going to bed, this was her first gift and it was welcomed with the appropriate level of excitement.

She lifted the covers to sit up straight on the bed and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. This was when she saw that it was only seven o'clock in the morning. She covered her mouth with her hands as she looked at the sweet gesture of her beloved Jason. The man who never ceased to surprise her. He had been the first to wish her a happy birthday last night and he had managed to prepare this so early in the morning. Well actually the first had been her mother, considering she had sent her message at the exact time that she had been born. But that is considered the privilege of a mother. "What's all this Jace?" "Happy eighteenth birthday Jenny. May all your wishes come true and may your life always be filled with happiness." "Hopefully happiness shared with me." He added with a wink. Jenny smiled as her heart squeezed tightly and she said, "They already have." And pulled Jason in for a gentle kiss. Showing him that his plan was a success so far.

"Now birthday girl it is time for you to blow out the candle and make a wish." Jason handed over the cupcake to Jenny and stood up to draw the curtains, which didn't make much of a difference as it was winter and the sun hadn't come up yet. So, he turned on the lights as well, making Jenny squint as she adjusted to the light. The candle was still lit as Jenny waited for Jason to return to the bed. Jenny looked at Jason till he readjusted and asked, "Ready?". To which Jason nodded and replied, "Ready." Jenny closed her eyes and spoke out the wish in her mind before she blew out the coloured flame. After that she took another look at the treat she was holding, examining the beautiful details and taking out a bite. "Oh my gosh this is so good Jace. Where did you get these?" Jason simply smiled and said, "I am glad you like them. There are still a few left. You can have those too if you want." Jenny's eyes grew wide as she stopped mid-bite. "Don't tell me you made it yourself?" Jason chuckled. "Of course I did. Did you think I would use a single pre-made cupcake to wake you for your birthday? I wanted to make you a cupcake tower, but it was more difficult than I thought. So, I settled for one that looked the most like how I had imagined them to look."

Jenny was at a loss for words. She thought to herself 'How could he do something like this so well, without ever trying?' Jenny felt that he could easily rival any cupcakes sold by any bakery. And gobbled down the cupcake with as much joy as one could possibly show on her face. Paying no attention at all to where she was getting the frosting. Making Jason, who was watching her eat, laugh at the scene in front of him. "Are you eating it or painting your face with it." He said as he wiped the traces of frosting from the tip of her nose. "I can't help it. It's so good, that I don't even notice." Jason chuckled. "You should taste it Jace. You really have a knack for baking. I might love your baking even more than your cooking." Jenny said as her eyes were fixated on the cupcake that was almost gone.

Jason replied almost inaudibly, "Maybe I should." Before pushing his upper body forward and placing his lips on the side of Jenny's lips, removing the bits of frosting and cream that had gotten on the corner of her mouth. Startling the unsuspecting Jenny, who seemed flabbergasted as she stared at Jason. Jason of course acted like this was the most normal way to taste the cupcake and said, "Hmm, it is indeed not bad. Let me have a second taste." Before placing kissing Jenny once more, this time properly, while her hand holding the cupcake wrapper remained frozen midair. After her warm wake up call, Jenny bolted into the bathroom. Using her having to still wash her face as an excuse, which of course added to Jason's amusement as he felt that it was a little late to be concerned over something like that. Regardless, he got up and returned downstairs to prepare the second part of his birthday plan.

Here we are with today's chapter. Tomorrow we will have another double release. I hope you enjoy for now and that you will join me again tomorrow as more of Jenny's surprises are revealed.
