Baby on board

Jenny was still trying to figure out how Jason had bested her as she stood in front of their bathroom mirror, trying to reduce the swelling of her lips by cooling it with a wettened washcloth. She was clearly winning at first. If only she had been a fraction of a second quicker. But what can she expect from her body. She was barely faster than Jason when she used her wits before bolting away. Now, with the added weight of her son and the fluids in her belly keeping him safe, she didn't stand a chance. A factor she hadn't accounted for in her planning. This factor had turned her victory from the teasing into a case of winning the battle but losing the war.

To ease her frustration from yet another loss, Jenny took the time alone to talk with their son. Turning her head down to face her belly, she said, "What are we going to do about this dear? We can't have your father besting us like this. If we can't outrun him, we should combine our brains to outwit him. Though with a case of pregnancy brain, I haven't felt very smart these days. So, I am afraid I am going to count on you for most of the thinking. What do you say, are you going to help mommy?" As if understanding his mother's pleas, their unborn child kicked in response to her question. Giving Jenny a chuckle and all the encouragement she needed.

When she finally stepped out of their room on the warm tiles of the poolside area, all their friends had already gathered and had gotten into the water. Jenny was greeted with all smiles and curious eyes as to the reason for her lateness. Though with most of them it didn't go any further than looking in her direction but this wouldn't be the case for the other pregnant person in their company. Elizabeth, who was waiting for her at the edge of the pool, having only her feet in the water and moving the refreshing water around by slowly kicking her feet back and forth, was mentally preparing herself for some digging. With the guys distracting Jason, who had started their suspicions with the content look on his face combined with a smirk, and Julia and Sophia pretending to be talking about something else nearby, they were ready for some answers. They knew he wouldn't be giving them any answers and they couldn't have him catching them questioning his unsuspecting wife. So, they could only go about things like this in order to quench their curiosity.

As Jenny got closer Jenny her eye was caught by Elizabeth's cute bathing suit. Where Jenny's bathing suit gave an elegant air, making you almost forget the spherical baby bump located just underneath her ribcage, Elizabeth had decided to have fun with it and had a simple bathing suit with the words, 'Caution. Baby on board." A sentence usually used to warn surrounding cars to keep a distance from the car in front of them but had now been used as a play on words where Elizabeth was carrying the baby instead of any vehicle. Though Jenny would only be able to read those words once she was close enough to be face to face with her close friend.

When Elizabeth pretended to notice Jenny only now and she gestured for her to take a seat next to her. When Jenny lowered herself carefully with much difficulty, Elizabeth wasted no time to allow Jenny to rest up as she asked the question on everyone's minds. "What has gotten you here so late?" Though Jenny tried to laugh it off saying, "Well, what do you expect. I am pregnant." But with the heat affecting her and her pregnancy brain not helping matters, she had used the one excuse she couldn't use with Elizabeth who responded with, "I am pregnant too and I am further along than you AND you got a head start as we still had to come up from the breakfast hall. Yet, I have been out here waiting for almost ten minutes, whereas you have only arrived now. With your husband arriving, after leaving you here by yourself for an entire week, you can't expect me to believe all you did was cuddle with each other. So, you had better start spilling."

Jenny, seeing no way out at this point, took a deep sigh as she felt disappointed in herself for having her second loss in a row. "I really don't get your curiosity on these matters. I am over six months pregnant. I think it is clear that we have gone past cuddling before. But very well, if you must know, we didn't stop at cuddling but we didn't get much further. Last night I was so tired and I wasn't thinking too clearly. So, I went to sleep where I have been sleeping all week. When Jason came to join me this morning, he ended up finding me in my mom's room where he decided to take a nap beside me. After we woke up we had a good mood going but with it being my mom's room and bed, it didn't feel right. So, we stopped before anything happened. Happy now, you curious cat." Thinking that she had answered all questions Elizabeth might have, she glanced in another direction and caught Julia and Sophia quickly avert their eyes and continue their fake conversation. Making it quite clear that they were listening in as well.
