Apologize

Once they reached the roof, Jenny let out a sigh. She felt like she could finally breath again. She was quite anxious to pull off this bold move, but she figured it was like pulling off a band aid. She should do it in a fast way, so that the pain wouldn't be endlessly dragged out. Now she could walk next to him, have lunch with him, hold his hand and it would all be natural. She wouldn't have to feel like a zoo animal. Jason gave her a gentle squeeze and she responded by wrapping her free arm around his. Soon the four of them were chatting away and the break was passing in no time. Jenny excused herself a few minutes before so that she could go to the bathroom before class started and George claimed he had to go too, so they went ahead. George was happy Jason had said nothing, because he needed to talk to Jenny alone about the whole Elizabeth situation. He knew he could not make her forgive Elizabeth, but he could at least put in a good word and make sure that she gave Elizabeth a chance once she had made up her mind.

"Jenny, I actually don't have to go to the bathroom. The reason I joined you is because I want to talk to you about something in private. I want to talk about what happened with Lizzy. What I am about to ask you might be a bit unfair to you, but I want to make sure that if she is finally ready to apologize to you, it won't be without result. So can you promise me that you will give her a chance to earn your forgiveness and have Jason allow her back into our group? I know what she has done is wrong and I have told her to stay home for a few days to reflect on her behavior, but I promised her I would try and talk to you about all of this."

"I'm sorry George, I know you and Elizabeth are good friends and I understand where you are coming from. But I don't think it is strange for me to want to keep the person who has been hitting on my fiance away from him. If she apologizes and she is sincere I can forgive her for what she has done to me. I can even ask to have her back in our class and show her forgiveness in that sense, but to allow her back in the group? I am afraid I can't promise you that. I don't think I can be comfortable having her around until I know that she is really over him and I simply don't think she can change herself or her feelings in just a few days. If she finds someone else or enough time has passed I can consider letting her in this daily group again, but for now all I can do is ask Jason to not give her a hard time. Besides, don't you think she should apologize because she actually thinks she has done something wrong and not because she expects something in return?"

After this Jenny walked away and left George behind, who was looking a bit dejected. While she was in the bathroom, she overheard some people talking. Once she understood who it was about, she was shocked. The student that Jason had beaten up on her first day at Mountforth High, had apparently been hurt more badly than she thought. She had kind of forgotten about him with all that had been going on, but it seemed like they had to pay a visit to the hospital. She texted Jason as soon as she could and informed him of their plans for the afternoon. The least she could do for the poor guy who had taken the heat for their fight, was to apologize to him and give him something to make his time pass by a bit more enjoyably. Jason was quite surprised by Jenny's message and he didn't really know how to respond. The fight from the other day had been one of many and he had never apologized once. He really didn't feel like wasting a perfectly good afternoon on a random guy who didn't know how to look where he was going, but before he got the chance to reply he received a second text saying "This is non negotiable! You can either join me or accept me spending every day this week there to make up for your absence". Reluctantly Jason joined Jenny to the nearest gift shop after school. After picking out an appropriate gift, they went on to the hospital that the student was staying in. When he saw them entering the door, his expression went from surprise from seeing Jenny to the look of someone looking death in the eyes when Jason entered. His heart stopped beating and a cold sweat covered his body instantly. With a shaking hand he pointed in Jason's direction. Stammering inaudible words. What was the devil doing here?!
