A wonderful solution

The party for Charlie went great and was in no way less than Henry's birthday bash had been. Despite Jenny and Jason asking people to not spoil him too much as he was too young and would outgrow most of it very soon, the little boy got showered with attention and gifts. From uncles, grandparents, friends of his parents, great-aunts, great-uncles and great-grandparents, there was no one that came empty handed and all were present to celebrate Charlie's first birthday. Each bringing more than one gift for the occasion. Yet even with the mountain of gifts in his honour, Charlie seemed interested in very few of them. Liking the gift of being allowed to stick close to his mother all day long most of all.

Once all the guests had left, either for their own homes or for the house in the city, where some of them would be staying for the night before their flight back the next day, Jenny and Jason talked about what to do with all that their son had been gifted today. They had just put their son to bed, as he was exhausted from all the impulses of today and all the different guests that all seemed to want some of his attention, and were getting ready to put on some comfortable clothes and relax on the sofa by themselves. As Jenny looked at the stack of boxes, bags and clothes that they would need to put away, she let out a sigh while she took it all in with widened eyes. "This is crazy. What are we supposed to do with all of this? What were they all thinking? There are enough clothes here for him to wear two different outfits each day for the next year. Plus all those toys and games. Most of which he won't even touch as they aren't challenging enough for him. Such a waste."

Jason let out a soft sigh as well before he answered while he continued to unbutton his shirt. "Yeah, they can't help themselves. They must just love him that much. Making them unable to come empty handed. I am glad that some people at least thought to buy clothes for an older age so he can grow into them. But it doesn't have to be a waste though. The Westwood family supports many orphanages financially. Each year a few of us make sure to visit the different homes. Some visiting regularly to play with the kids and bring things like toys and school supplies. So, we could donate some of these things for the younger kids in there. Christmas is in a few months. So, we could also donate it to the company that collects unwanted gifts and such so that they can surprise those less fortunate with something for Christmas."

Jenny looked at Jason with a flabbergasted expression. She had always seen him only show his kindness towards her so she didn't expect him to make such a selfless and kind hearted suggestion. She walked over to him and pulled his arm to lower his face for a kiss. With a touched voice she responded, "That sounds like a wonderful solution dear. I am glad to see that I have married a man with a big heart. I didn't expect you to think of regifting the presents to an orphanage. Never change this side of you."

Jason let out a chuckle as he said, "Just how mean did you think I was. Just because I don't give my kindness away like I am a male mother Theresa, does not mean that I don't have any to spare at all. Those that deserve it, will definitely get kindness from me. I am not so heartless to deprive orphans from a day where they can forget their troubles and receive gifts like any other child." Jenny responded by saying, "I like to keep my expectations low. That way I can be pleasantly surprised more often.", before she turned to him with a big smile on her face and eyes that revealed that she was clearly teasing him. "Well, now that that is settled I can finally put my mind to rest and leave this mess for tomorrow. We can let Charlie take a look at everything and let him decide what he wishes to keep and what we can give to those that will actually be able to appreciate the gift."

Having figured out what to do with the abundant number of gifts, they could finally do what they had planned. Once both of them had changed into some loose and comfortable clothes, they headed towards the sofa and Jason used the remote to reveal the TV that was normally hidden inside one of the walls by the windows. Putting on a simple movie, they relaxed in each other's arms. Jenny resting her body against Jason's as she had placed her head on his chest, while her legs were lying next to his. Tugged away against the back of the sofa, while Jason's legs were laid straight out on the sofa and his arms surrounded Jenny's.

Though they started the movie with the intention to finish it, it wasn't long before Jenny had dozed off into sleep and Jason caught himself slipping away. When he was woken by his head falling back, startling him, he glanced down and saw that Jenny had already left for dreamland. He smiled as he watched her and said, "Ché. You slept till so late today and still you are the first to go. You truly are a koala. Never getting bored of sleeping, no matter how much of it you get." After that he gently moved his legs till they touched the floor and turned his body away from underneath Jenny's. While he used his arms to support her body and prevent Jenny from waking up, he got up from the sofa before lifting her up in his arms in order to carry her to the bed. Once he had her gently tucked in on her side of the bed, he went over to his side and got under the covers as well before dozing off for some proper sleep.
