A whole day out

With Charlie now at almost six weeks and Sam a little shy of three months, one set of parents was heading towards easier times while the other had already reached that point. After the two month mark babies usually sleep a bit longer and have to be fed less frequently as they can hold more in their stomachs. Because of that Sam now required a feeding once every three to four hours, instead of every two. This had made taking care of their son a lot easier on Elizabeth and Nick. Since they were able to get some more sleep, they also had more energy to go out on their own or meet up with friends. With Mary's help, Jenny and Jason's days were also much less exhausting. Allowing them too to find time and energy to go on a date or a different kind of outing.

Considering that the busiest people of their group now had some free time on their hands, there was no reason left for the friends to not meet up for some fun outside of the house. No sooner had it been proposed before a wave of enthusiasm washed over the group chat. It appeared that as luck would have it, all eight friends had that Friday night off. So they decided to hang out and blow off some steam. Especially the new parents could use a night without worries and above all without diapers! As the talks about when and where to meet up, some members of the group let the others know that they were free during the day as well.

With both Mary and Susan being at home on the day they were supposed to meet up with the friends, Jenny and Jason were offered a whole day out of the house instead of just the evening they requested. Making them two of the people who were free during the day as well. Something Jenny wasn't aware of yet as Jason had initially said that he had some work to do during the day. But when it was proposed to meet up earlier with the smaller group of people that were free during the day and be joined by the others later, Jason rejected that idea immediately on behalf of both of them. He had taken that day off from work when the offer by the two mothers was made in order to surprise Jenny with a proper date and he didn't want to spend all of their day off from parenthood with their friends. So, before Jenny could unintentionally mess up a perfect day with just the two of them by agreeing with the second suggestion, he chased the friends away along with their suggestion.

With Jenny still busy breastfeeding to read any of the messages after the initial plan of meeting up and giving Jason the responsibility to let their friends know they would join them in the evening, she wasn't aware of what was going on in the group chat. But by the time she would be able to catch up, her attendance would already be rejected by Jason, before she even had a chance to read the proposed plans in the first place. He answered their "Why's" and complaints by telling them that he had decided to take Jenny out on a one on one date during the day and that they should be happy that he was willing to share their precious day off by meeting up with the friends during the evening. Leaving them no room to talk about the subject further as none of them wanted to get between a couple that was going on their first date in a long time.

When Jenny was finished and joined Jason with little Charlie on the sofa in their room. While Jenny placed Charlie in his small rocking chair, Jason quickly put his phone away. Jenny didn't think much of it and asked him, "Did you guys manage to work out the details for Friday?" as she softly rocked their son with her hand. Jason answered hurriedly before changing the subject to what he needed to tell Jenny before she read about it in the group chat. "Yeah. Everything is set. But more importantly, do you want to go on a date on Friday?" Jenny chuckled as she looked at him a bit confused as he had just told her that the plans to meet up with their friends had been finalized and now he was asking her to go on a date with him on the same day. "Well...I want to but as you know we are already meeting up with our friends, so we can't."

Jason grabbed her free hand as he looked into her eyes, "Well as long as you want to go, I can take care of the "Can't" problem with what I am about to tell you next. I wanted it to be a surprise but since those friends of ours had to come up with some stupid second plan, I had to change up my plan as well. I have taken Friday off from work because we haven't been away for quite some time now. So, we can still meet up with our friends during the evening like we planned and use the rest of the day to have some fun with just you and me. What do you say?" Jenny smiled brightly as she loved his surprise without even knowing what he had planned for that day. "I say, that sounds wonderful!"
