A simple choice

As soon as Jason heard the yes, he shot up from his position, lifted Jenny from her chair and spun her around from joy. He had finally gotten this wonderful woman to be his. Jenny returned his high lifted hug by wrapping her arms around his neck. After a spin, Jason let Jenny down gently. He stopped the moment he and Jenny were eye to eye and they were but inches apart, before placing a gentle kiss on Jenny's lips. Considering their difference in height, Jenny's feet were far from reaching the ground, but even if they did touch, it would feel like she was floating. She was immersed in the moment and had been silenced by Jason's action. The short kiss came to an end, but their positions were still the same. With blushing cheeks and widened eyes she looked at Jason. Who in turn could not break his eyes away from Jenny either, but he knew if he continued the kiss, he would not be able to stop himself. This setting, the lack of other people and this close bodily contact, was too tempting. So he let Jenny down and while saying "I believe you still have a ring to pick" let out a short cough and turned sideways awkwardly. Jenny let out a chuckle and regained her composure. "I suppose I do!".

In her mind this was a simple choice. Of course she had to pick the beautiful custom made one with the sapphire. That ring was so close to her ring she had always envisioned that it was scary. The only thing holding her back was the fact that Jason had used the other ring twice already. So it should have a certain meaning for him to do that. So she decided to dig a little deeper. "Jace ...before I make my choice known, I would like to know what the reason is that you have used your great grandmothers ring to propose to me. Not once, but twice. Is it because you think I would like this ring and it is a family heirloom or is there more meaning behind this pick that I am unaware of?" Jason looked her in the eyes and replied by saying "Can you promise me that it won't affect your choice? I want you to pick what you like and not what you think you should pick".

Jenny felt that was a fair question to ask as plenty of people would have done something like that to please another and she too in the past had made decisions based on what she thought would be right, instead of simply following what she wanted to do, but in essential she was a person who stood by her decisions so she was confident that this time would be the same. "Yes, I promise." With no other choice left, Jason began to tell the story of the proposal ring. "This ring has been in our family for generations. It was used by my great grandfather to propose to my great grandmother. After that it was used by my grandfather to propose to my grandmother and by my father when he proposed to my mother. So over the years it was come to known as "The proposal ring", because everyone who used it to propose had not only gotten an instant yes, they had also been in long lasting happy marriages. When it was my time to propose to the girl I liked, I figured if it had brought so many people before me good luck, maybe it would do the same for me. As you know, the first proposal wasn't very successful, but I do think it brought us a certain amount of luck. I mean that proposal forced you to look at me in a different light, it was with me during the time that I wanted to give up and during the time I thought of a plan to win you back and it is even here now when I have received a "yes" to my proposal. In less than six months you have gone from a stranger to my fiance. What more can I want from this ring. Using it for the second proposal gave me a bit of extra confidence and makes me feel like we are going to lead a happy life with each other. But you don't have to pick this ring for the story it holds, I have used it to propose and you have said yes. That is enough"

"I love that story!" Jenny exclaimed after Jason was finished. She did not expect that to be the reason for him to use that ring and did make her doubt her choice a bit, but she had made a promise and she was going to keep it. But there were more ways to Rome. "Jace...you said that both rings were chosen for me and that I could pick whichever I wanted right? And that if I picked neither, you would simply get rid of them?" There it was again. That nickname. When had she started to call him "Jace". Not that he minded, it showed that they had gotten closer, but it did take some getting used to. He had never allowed people to call them by his first name, with the exception of the few people he considered friends, let alone have people call him by a nickname or an abbreviation of his name. But now was not the time to think about such things, so he refocused and nodded to answer Jenny's questions. "Well in that case, I want them both!"

Well some time has passed since my last publication, but I had been swamped with my studies and I hadn't been feeling all too well. I wanted to at least finish the proposal story, so I hope you like it. Enjoy and thanks as always for the support and sticking with my quick, quick, slow story!
