A second chance

As Jason entered the driveway he was relieved to see his predictions were right. All the golf carts were parked at their designated spot and Jason quickly jumped into the closest one to him. As he drove off in the direction of the gate, he came across the mother who was struggling to walk the long distance. He stopped in next to her and helped her get into the cart as he apologized to her for his behavior. As Mary did not speak English, she only understood the word "sorry" and his apologetic expression. This was enough for her to feel relieve and show a gentle smile. All she wanted was for her daughter to be treated well if she decided to accept this boy. Seeing his frantic behavior to reach her daughter in time, made her believe there had been a misunderstanding and there was hope yet for these two youngsters to find one another, figuratively speaking of course. Geographically speaking, she could already see her daughter up ahead. She too hadn't gotten very far and was resting by the pond halfway to the end of the driveway.

In her native tongue Jenny asked her mother what she was doing with that despicable man. Seeing her mother's gentle expression, she knew that he had somehow convinced her mother to give him another chance. Her mother was simply too kind, always thinking that there is good in everyone. But Jenny had met plenty of awful people to think otherwise. So before her mother could even say a word in Jason's defense, she said "Don't even suggest me giving him another chance. It was one thing for him to insult me, but he even insulted you! As soon as I reach the end of this ridiculously long driveway, I will be on the first plane out of here." "Honey, I know he did something wrong, but he realizes that. He wants to explain himself and apologize. Has he angered you that much that you cannot even hear out his apology? Have I not taught you forgiveness?" Mary asked Jenny. "You have, but who says he deserves forgiveness. I am sure he only came here after pressure from his mother. I doubt he knows how to be sorry, hmph" Jenny said, as she turned away from her mother with her arms crossed over each other.

"All humans make mistakes, what distinguishes a good person from a bad person, is being able to recognize your mistakes and trying to make up for them. Don't be angry on my behalf, I can fight my own battles. You came all this way to meet him, so let go of your anger and prejudice and give him a real chance this time around. I am sure he is about to tell you that he will do the same. You can be angry with him, but be angry after you guys have had a real conversation. That shouting match from before does not count! Can you not see a bit of his sincerity by his rushing to come to you? I am sure that your altercation from before, was all due to a misunderstanding. Listening to him can only make you feel better, because now all you have is anger based on what you think his reasons were for his behavior. So do this for you, not for him. If you don't like his explanation then we can still leave. If you can see some reason in his story, we can continue our trip and see what it brings you two."

Hearing all of this, Jenny could not help but feel that there was some truth to what her mother was saying. She had been against this meeting till just a few hours ago and even then she might have been subconsciously trying to find a reason not to go. Adding what happened to her prejudice towards a family as rich as this, she instantly had the "I knew this was too good to be true" reaction. Therefore she didn't defend herself, but instantly went into offense mode. She was using this same prejudice as a reason to not give him this second chance, so she could leave before he could hurt her. Now it was just her being offended, but if she gave this a go and she ended up falling for him, then she could get her heart broken. She took a deep breath and turned around. "I suppose you are right mom. If you can forgive him, then I should give him a second chance as well or at the very least a chance to explain himself"

Hmm this chapter went easier than I thought leaving me plenty of time for another chapter. Enjoy and the next one is coming before you know it!
