A promise to someone

Though Max was bummed as well, because he would rather spend his time hanging out with his friends, when he glanced over to see Jenny's reaction it was clear to him that she was much more affected by the news. He was just about to try and cheer her up when the teacher sighed and called Jenny to his desk. Elizabeth, who had stood up to go to talk to her, was stopped in her movements as well. While the other students got up to leave to the class room and stretch their legs, Jenny walked over to the teacher's desk and see what he had to say. Max felt awkward to stay and watch and left with the others to try and have some fun before the next class started. Elizabeth was not affected by this awkwardness and she stayed in the classroom as the only other student and she looked at Jenny's talk with the teacher from a distance. That way she could figure out how to help her in the best way.

The teacher was clearly still annoyed about the situation, but he felt bad when he saw how frantic Jenny's expression was when she was asking him for help and how dejected and worried it became when he turned her request down. He sighed heavily before he started speaking and said, "Look, I get that you didn't picture your senior year like this and you don't want any extra work when there is plenty to focus on this year. But even though it might seem like an annoying responsibility right now, it is a very good opportunity for you to learn. You get to do a lot and see a lot, that you don't get to do as a regular student and it will benefit you in your adult life."

Jenny understood what he was saying and she felt bad for giving him this kind of trouble, but she also really dreaded to have a conversation about this with Jason. She hadn't even dealt with the sitting next to some guy part and then this trouble was piled onto it before she knew it. She knew that if she said she was Jason's fiance, these troubles would disappear instantly, but she couldn't bring herself to do that. She disliked people using their names to get out of things or away with things, so she shouldn't lower herself into doing that which she disliked others for. Besides, she wanted to experience this school year like any other student and any other student would have to accept this task. So, if she used Jason's name to make the teacher pick someone else, that would defeat the purpose. If there were no exceptions, then she shouldn't be the one to stand above the rules.

"Yes, I understand sir. Sorry for making a fuss earlier. It's not about the work. I am fine with that, but I had made a promise to someone before the year had started and because of the after school work that comes with being a class representative, I won't be able to keep that promise." "Ah... I see..."The teacher said as he scratched the back of his head. He was feeling bad and a bit awkward for the assumptions he had made. "Well sorry for coming down so hard on you then. I thought for a moment that you were the same like those other bratty kids who are too lazy to do the work because they are more interested in their phones and dating. I am sure that 'someone' will understand if you explain it to them. Now, I have to go to my next class or else I will be late. We will talk more about your tasks as representatives next week." Jenny watched the teacher go out the door and she thought to herself 'No, he won't' as she sighed and sat back down in her seat.

Now that the teacher was gone, Elizabeth could finally go to Jenny and ask her what the teacher told her and how she planned on handling the situation. She had to be quick about it, because they only had a few minutes before the first bell of the next class would ring and everyone would come back inside. She sat down in the seat next to her catching Jenny's attention. She turned around and said, "Oh hey Liz, I didn't notice you were still inside the classroom". "Don't hey me. Of course I wouldn't leave when you have gotten yourself in such a big mess. What do you plan on doing? Did the teacher give you a way out of this?" "Ugh, I don't know and no he did not. He just said that it would be a good learning experience." "Yeah to learn how jealous Jason can get. Jason will not take this well. I feel sorry for that poor chum who got grouped with you. He doesn't know what he got himself into and you being so chummy with him does not help your case." Jenny let her face drop to the table as she whimpered, "I know. I did not plan on interacting so much with him. As if me being seated next to some guy wasn't bad enough. I had to befriend the guy and get an extra curricular activity with him. How am I supposed to tell Jason about this?!"

While Jenny was worried about how she was going to let Jason know about this change of events without it affecting Max or his family nor hurting Jason or having him interfere, her phone vibrated and lit up. And sure enough, speak of the devil, Jason had sent her a message. She had stopped typing in the middle of her reply to his first message, so he had sent her another message asking her if anything was wrong and if he needed to come over before the break. She let herself fall out flat again as she let out a helpless sound. Elizabeth glanced at her screen and saw the message. She felt bad for her friend, because she had dug a hole she couldn't get out of without hurting someone in the process.

Here we are with today's chapter right before the weekend. Tomorrow will be a double release and will reveal the confrontation. And I can feel a storm brewing.
