A day to remember

After breakfast Jason got dressed as well and they went outside. It was still quite early and it was a cold day, but it looked magical. As the world had turned white from snow. The body of water, where they had sat on the tree trunks had been completely frozen and the trees surrounding it had a layer of snow on them. Reminding Jenny of their engagement party. However, as pretty as it may be, they decided to start the day with indoor activities. They ended up going to the mall as their first stop, where they went window shopping. At least that is what Jason told Jenny, but in fact everything that she seemed remotely interested in, was bought behind her back and would be sent to Westwood mansion. Be it shoes, purses or even jewelry, Jason was making sure that Jenny would be spoiled rotten today.

After a few hours of walking around, they moved onto the second location. Which was a winter paradise that had been set up nearby. It had stalls that sold things like hot cocoa, caramelized apples, mittens, shawls, but more importantly it had an ice rink. It being the weekend, the place was very crowded and appeared extra cheerful. The stalls, benches and the rink were decorated with all kinds of lights, making it feel warm, despite the actual temperature. Children were running around, couples were holding hands and young and old were enjoying the hot beverages being sold. Here and there couples could even be found kissing on one of the benches that were surrounding the rink, wrapped up with shawls and gloves to shield themselves from the cold. This was due to the magic that hid within the cold, it made you want to snuggle up closer to your significant other. Regardless of your surroundings. Along with the festive lights that create a romantic atmosphere, it becomes almost impossible to do nothing. So, what starts with getting closer to share body warmth, becomes a moment where the feelings start flowing and it makes you want to hold each other, hug and kiss.

Jenny and Jason were not immune to this kind of ambiance either. When they watched people having fun on the ice, chasing each other, skating while holding hands and people clumsily trying to make their way across the rink, they decided to join them. Jason rented a pair of skates for the both of them and they carefully stepped onto the rink. Lacking any talent for ice skating, Jenny was holding onto Jason for dear life right from the get go. After a few rounds of Jason skating backwards and pulling the struggling Jenny along, she finally let go. But the moment she did, Jenny lost her balance and fell down. Jason who tried to catch her, fell down with her and had used his body to break her fall. This happened again and again, though Jenny did manage to get further after each fall. Once they felt that they had accumulated enough bruises, they returned the skates and went to sit down on one of the benches around the ice rink.

Jenny's face was flushed. She had thoroughly enjoyed herself and couldn't stop laughing. Aside from being great fun, the moving around had warmed her up quite nicely. But this didn't stop her from wanting a cup of steaming cocoa when Jason offered her one. When Jason returned with two cups in hand, they walked over to one of the empty benches. Not wanting Jenny to feel cold or for her clothes to get dirty, Jason handed Jenny the drinks. He used his free hands to clear the snow and sat down first, before pulling Jenny on his lap and wrapping his arms around her to keep her and himself warm.

Feeling slightly embarrassed by being sitting like that with so many people around, Jenny said, "What are you doing Jace? I can sit down next to you." But like a spoiled child Jason replied, "No. I am cold and I need you to warm me up." Jenny chuckled. "Well then drink your cocoa. That should warm you up in no time. I can't be sitting on your lap with so many people around." Jason looked at her and said, "Why not? Look around you. There are couples all around, doing the exact same thing. If not more." Jenny saw that Jason was right and no longer felt that she had a reason to reject him. Instead, she smiled gently at the guy who wanted to feel pampered as much as he wanted her to feel pampered and placed a kiss on his cheek. Then she started to blow gently on the two cocoa's in her hand, before she helped feed him his warm drink while enjoying hers as well.

After what seemed like a perfect date, it was time for Jenny to go to work. Jason drove with her to drop Jenny off for her shift and even walked with her to the entrance of the nursing home. They stood in front of the electronic sliding doors and Jason was holding both of Jenny's hands, rocking them from side to side, reluctant to let go. When Jenny said, "It's time for me to go inside Jace. Otherwise I'll be late." Jason placed a soft, short kiss on her lips, before he reluctantly let go and allowed Jenny to go inside. He stood at the spot where he had let go of Jenny till she was no longer in sight, before turning around and getting ready for the next phase of Jenny's birthday surprise extravaganza. This day was no way near finished and Jenny would be receiving surprise after surprise. Making sure that this would be a birthday she would never forget. Because his first birthday had become one that he would never forget, as it was the day they got engaged. So, he wanted Jenny's first birthday to be just as memorable. Since topping an engagement is quite a difficult thing to do, he needed to bring in as many elements of surprise as possible to compensate for that fact and make this a day to remember!
