A day off
Jenny and Jason stayed up on the roof for the rest of self study. When she returned for her next class, where Jason parted from her reluctantly, they saw that Max was not in his seat. After he had been discovered and he had seen Jenny's reaction, he could already predict what was coming and he didn't feel like sticking around for it. So, he decided to run instead. However, no matter how far or fast he would run, Jason was not one to leave debts unpaid and Max was sure to get his. Feeling certain that Max wouldn't be able to escape his grasp, Jason did not worry at all at his attempt to flee. When he saw the empty seat Jason was nothing else but happy that the bug had crawled back to whatever hole he had come from and had been removed from Jenny's side.
Though Jenny was actually supposed to go to work today, she didn't think that Jason would be willing to part with her for multiple hours today. If it hadn't been that they had just one more class left for the day, she was certain that he would have made her skip the rest of the lessons so as to have her near. Even convincing him to going to this class had been very difficult to do, taking three attempts to leave the roof. So, while she was in class, she took out her phone and contacted the doctor, asking him if it was possible for her to take the day off today. When the doctor saw her message, he was surprised. But considering Jenny's work ethic and her mood from the last few days, he thought she must have her reasons for requesting this so last moment.
He contemplated for a moment, before approving her request with a "Do what you must, as long as you know that I will deduct double the hours from you pay." Jenny chuckled inaudibly as she shook her head at the dishonest response of the man. Though she knew that he wouldn't actually do that, even if he did, it would have been worth it for today. She replied, "I would have agreed to triple the hours! So, it is your loss." Unwantingly the doctor smiled when he read her message, before clearing his throat and putting on his stern expression as he looked around the room to see if anyone had seen him. When he had confirmed that there was no one around, he continued his work. Though he was disappointed he wouldn't get to see Jenny, he had no reason to refuse her request aside from selfish reasons and the technicality of her officially being late with placing her request. Today was the day when they had the smallest round and before Jenny had come, they had to do all of the work themselves as well. So, though they had grown accustomed to her being there, it wasn't like they couldn't do one day without her.
When their last class of the day finished and Jenny packed her stuff to get ready to leave, Jason had already been waiting for her by the door. He stepped inside when the door opened and walked up to her desk, earning him the stares and inaudible whispers of the other students who felt the chilly air coming from him. They didn't know that they had made up. They had heard rumours of their hug in the hallway, but seeing his cold expression as he walked through the room, they felt he looked like he was about to go to war with someone instead of walking over to someone he loved. Jenny felt the drop in temperature as well and looked up to see him with a serious expression by her side. "Do you have to go to work today?" He asked with an unhappy tone. Having anticipated this reaction, Jenny chuckled and said, "I did, but I asked for a day off. So, I am all yours."
"Really?" He asked with a shocked expression. Not expecting Jenny to beat him to it and not having to ask her to skip work for a day, he was pleasantly surprised. Almost instantly spring arrived in the chilly classroom and the temperature went back to normal as Jason's oppressive mood cleared up to a much more pleasant one. Jason unknowingly started smiling after hearing Jenny's response, making his fellow students drop their jaws in disbelief and their eyes widen. When had they ever seen such a carefree, genuine smile on their prince's face? As if he wasn't handsome enough before, now he was simply breathtaking. Making more than one student forget to breathe literally as they watch this scene unfold in utter silence.
Even Elizabeth, who was watching from a short distance, couldn't believe what she was seeing. Though she had seen Jason smile in Jenny's presence from time to time, she hadn't seen it for quite some time now and she hadn't expected to see it in the middle of a filled classroom. Even if it was anywhere else, this image was a sight for sore eyes. Even when she was already taken and happily engaged, she couldn't help but stare along with the other students. Seeing Jason's visible response to her words, Jenny was glad that she had decided to ask for a day off and added, "All I have to do is prepare for tomorrow and write in the journal and then we are good to go. Will you help me?" Jason needed no time to think over that question as he immediately replied, "Try and stop me." After that the two of them left and time finally started moving again. The once so quiet classroom, now filled with squeals of excited girls and guys sharing their surprise. Elizabeth laughed in silence and grabbed her things before walking to the door with a smile as she was headed to the man that was waiting for her outside the classroom.
