A contraction?

Jason was the only one who joined Jenny upstairs. Having no interest to remain downstairs without Jenny, he turned in for the night alongside her. He was planning to read a little while Jenny slept, before turning in himself as well. Jenny had finished brushing her teeth and stepped in the bed, where Jason had already gotten under the covers, reading whatever had caught his interest currently. "Are you sure you don't want to stay with the others downstairs? I'll be fine on my own. All I am going to do is sleep anyways." Jason shook his head. "No, I am fine here. I still have a few chapters to read and I want to be here in case you need me. You haven't been sleeping too well these days, so let me stroke your head. I know that sooths you."

Jenny was easily convinced, as she was actually happy he had come to join her. All she had needed was a tiny push to ensure her that he didn't feel obligated or that she had unknowingly forced him to join her. Now that she had gotten that, she snuggled up to him without hesitation. Even though she was going to sleep, she didn't want to be alone and Jason's scent always helped her feel more comfortable. If he was even offering his soothing head patting, she wouldn't be the one to turn him down.

What they didn't know yet at this point, was that this moment of serenity wouldn't last long and that they were going to have a short night. Because once this Westwood offspring had made up his mind, he had no intention of waiting. Jenny had just dozed off for an hour or two and Jason was about to turn in himself as he got the rest of his body under the covers. He had just turned off the lights above his nightstand and had pulled Jenny in even more closely against his body. When he closed his eyes to allow sleep to take over him as well, Jenny suddenly started to move about and became restless. Jason thought it was because she was feeling some discomforts and just started stroking her hair gently in order to shush her back to sleep. But shortly after her first movements, Jenny woke up in a startle, signalling the end of their night with the sentence, "Jason wake up. My contractions started."

Jenny was deep asleep when the first contractions came, making her not realize what it was she was feeling. The human mind has a way to incorporate the things we feel while we sleep, into our dreams. Making us not realize what is caused by reality and what by the dream. It wasn't until the second contraction came, which her brain couldn't work into her dream in a way that made sense to her. Causing Jenny to realize it was something that wasn't just happening in her dream but in real life as well. With her first two contractions happening while she was still asleep, she did not know how much time was in between the two.

Luckily, Jason had been awake during the first one and was now woken by the second one. "A contraction? Really?" Jenny nodded in the dark as she struggled to get up. "I think it is the second one. I remember feeling something when I was asleep." Jason groggily got up and turned on the lights, before he lent a hand to Jenny and helped her sit up in bed as well. "Yeah probably. I thought you were just feeling uncomfortable somewhere but it was probably a contraction making you become restless like that. Let's see how far along we are before I start waking everyone up." He grabbed his phone and looked at the time in order to calculate how far apart the contractions were. Though he didn't know the exact time the contractions had started, he knew they were currently about fifteen to twenty minutes apart.

"Okay, it is 11:53 PM now. You let me know when you feel the next one, so we can keep track. I will call everyone, when they are about seven minutes apart. Since we don't know how long this phase will last, there is no use in waking anyone yet." Jenny agreed with his plan of waiting as this phase can last hours. No need to disturb everyone's rest. "I told them to leave their sound on in case your contractions would start during the night. Guess I was setting myself up for my first broken night by doing that." Jenny let out a chuckle at his remark. Despite their current circumstances, both were still up for laughing and joking, making the best of what was about to happen. Something which would give them happiness but had a tiresome process prior to that happening.

As both of them tried to get a bit of sleep while the contractions were still far apart and weren't as painful yet, their son was getting ready for his arrival into the real world. Slowly he was moving about and getting into place, while Jason was using his hands and rotating motions, to give Jenny some relief from the pressure she was feeling in her lower back. Like this, transitioning between not fully asleep and not fully awake, Jenny and Jason got through the night. It was around eight in the morning, when both Jenny and Jason gave up their attempts at getting more rest. As Jenny's contractions were getting stronger, Jason's rubbing was no longer enough to keep the pain away and they looked for something 'stronger'.
