Chapter 1: Getting a job

Leo steps through the demonic portal onto a grassy field in the middle of a town. He looks around to see if there are any buildings nearby, and there's only 1, with a sign that says "Guild Management." He decides to go in.

[PoV focus change]

The guild manager named Sean yawns, slumped over the desk. He then scratches his head with his right hand, behind his left ear. Sean is a demi-human wolf. "Damn.... Nobody has come in to register their Guild or ask for a Quest in days..... Problems are really piling up! Hope someone interesting comes in soon....." Then, a bell dings, signalling the front door has been opened, and Sean stands up straight, his tail wagging, as he looks at the demi-human dragon coming in, taking note of his red, black, and yellow horns, black hair with random tufts of electric green and electric purple, bright blue eyes, lightly tanned skin, decent muscular build, wide shoulders, somewhat-thick thighs, and a 2-piece red outfit, loosely ninja-based aesthetic, clearly made for unrestricted movement, and Sean knew he would never forget this stranger's face.

[PoV focus shifted back to Leo]

"Hi there, my name is Leo. I wanna take on a quest to make money. What is the standard procedure for accepting quests? I'm new around here...." Leo tells Sean, clearly a little nervous, looking around the room.

"Nice to meet'cha, Leo. Don't mean to sound rude, but it's obvious you're new. My name is Sean, and I'm the manager for this place. To accept a quest, you just go look at the papers on that corkboard, and decide which job you wanna claim. Then you bring it to me, and I register it as "In progress." However, since you're an unregistered Adventurer, you can only take on E-Rank and F-Rank quests. Unless you want to have your mana measured right now, but that's not something we force. Just a requirement so we can assess if you're ready for higher ranked jobs." This was Sean's favorite part of the job, explaining things to noobs to put them at ease, because he wanted more people to come back to see how they progress as they get stronger, as he usually gets to see some interesting new magic spells, as he knows he hasn't seen everything, being only 32.

Leo goes to the corkboard, looking at all the Quests, wondering what one will appeal to him the most.....

(Author here. Please give me constructive criticism for my first chapter. I hope I manage to get at least 10 people interested within the next few weeks. I'll explain more about this fantasy world in Chapters 2-4, and won't reveal anything before then, as I'm confident in my imagination surrounding that part of the story, but I'm more than happy to change things so they make more sense after I hear my readers' thoughts.)
