'Sweet! Does this mean that I can instantly boost this body's characteristics if I complete these missions?'

'Status'

'Hmm, I should think about this before I do anything hasty.'

Conrad is still standing in the shop on the first floor of his home. His dad has just finished speaking with the Craftsman and is currently polishing a sword from one of the display racks.

'I'll just act like I'm looking at one of the weapons so that he doesn't get suspicious of me just staring off into space.'

Conrad walks to the rear of the shop and begins to stare at the weapons hung upon the wall blankly.

'Alright, I need to think about this wisely. Strength and Speed are a necessity for combat, and I'm guessing the demon I made a deal with will make me walk a path of conflict. But on the other hand, if I have no Charisma, I won't be able to convince people and may come off as an asshole.'

'I think the best choice here is to just evenly distribute my points between everything except for intelligence. Since that's my highest stat right now.'

'Add 2 Stat Points to Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Charisma, and Wisdom.'

'Stat Points Added.'

A wave of pain surges over Conrad. Making him grimace.

'This is nothing compared to the torture of dying twice.'

Realization suddenly dawns on Conrad.

'Woah, my body feels light now, and I don't feel tired like I usually do by midday. My eyes feel different too. Let's test this out.'

Conrad looks closer at one of the weapons and can easily pick out small details he couldn't see before.

'Nice, I bet if I get my Wisdom really high, I'll be able to see things a mile away!'

(Author's note: Wisdom (Perception) is the characteristic designated to how well individuals can examine their surroundings.)

"Oh, you like that one, Lucian?" Siegfried says.

Siegfried had moved closer, seeing Conrad had found interest in one of his works.

A moment of silence endures until Conrad realizes that he is Lucian. Still not fully integrated into his new life.

'Shit, he's talking to me. I should start referring to myself with this new name. Besides, what's the reason to hold onto the name that bitch of a woman gave me.'

Lucian's mind runs through memories of his abusive mother and their past.

Lucian realizes he's only been looking at one sword this entire time.

"Scimitar," Lucian calls out with his babyish voice.

"Huh!" Siegfried says, astonished at his child's first word.

Seeing the astonishment, Lucian realizes his mistake.

'Dammit! I haven't said a word to them my entire life, and the first thing I say is "Scimitar." What the hell am I thinking!'

'I guess I'm gonna have to just play this off.'

"Where'd you hear that word, Lucian?" Siegfried asks Lucian

"Dada" Lucian says pointing to Siegfried

Lucian mentally facepalms. 'This guy is gonna eat this one up.' He snickers.

Siegfried's face fills with a smile at the joy of his son addressing him.

"You're such a good boy! Come to dada!" Siegfried says as he raises him high up in the air.

"Say it again, Lucian!"

"Dada"

"We're gonna go tell momma about this! Just say the same thing to her, okay?" Siegfried says, forgetting that his son shouldn't know how to reply.

Unbeknownst to him he does, and can already speak more intelligently than him.

"Dada," Lucian responds with the only thing he can react with.

Siegfried holds Lucian tight against his chest with one arm as he quickly walks upstairs to tell Lilith.

"Dear! Dear! It's LUCIAN!" Siegfried shouts at the top of his lungs.

Before reaching the top of the steps, his mother stands halfway through the doorway of the workroom. A look of bewilderment and fear covers her face as she looks at Siegfried with dread.

She runs over to Siegfried and immediately runs her hands over Lucian's body, checking for wounds.

'Shit.' Siegfried thinks to himself.

'You fucked up big man.' Lucian thinks to himself.

Dread turns to anger as Lilith looks her husband up and down.

"You scared me half to death, you dimwit! What the hell are you doing screaming our child's name and running up the stairs like he's dead?!" Lilith spouts off with rage.

Siegfried holds his free hand to Lilith's cheek in affection.

"Trust me, dear. This was worth all your anger," he says with a smile.

"It better be worth it." She instantly replies.

Lilith begins to walk back to the office with Siegfried hot on her heels with excitement.

After a few moments pass, Lilith sits back down on one of the sitting chairs. Siegfried does the same thing while putting Lucian down on the carpet.

"Okay Lucian. Do it." Siegfried coos to his son.

Lucian looks to his mother and says.

"Mama."

Lilith looks at her son for a moment, stunned. Then a beautiful smile crosses her cheeks.

"Your FIRST word! Oh, my baby!"

Lilith practically jumps from her seat and hugs the sitting Lucian.

Siegfried sits there puzzled for a second.

'I saw right through your plan. Big man.' Lucian sneers to himself.

"Say it again, Lucian." Lilith says, staring deep into his eyes with pure happiness.

"Mama!" Lucian yelps louder than before.

She begins to hug Lucian tighter than before while simultaneously kissing every part of his face.

A few moments later, the endless affection comes to a stop. Lilith pushing her hair over her ears looks to Siegfried.

"See, this is how spending time with your child pays off." Lilith glibly remarks to Siegfried.

Siegfried sits there flabbergasted at what just happened.

'There's no way in hell I can tell her.'

'There's no way in hell he can tell her.' Conrad thinks simultaneously.'
