A decision to change a lifetime

Everyone has that one decision, that one moment in their lives that they think back to from time to time and wonder what could have been if they had made a different choice a different decision. A point in time they wish they could go back to. After saving a stranger, Laila has been offered a chance to do just that. Laila has nothing she could want from an outsiders perspective. She lives in a big mansion, with a handsome husband and two beautiful children but in reality her life is far from perfect and she couldn't remember the last time she was truly happy. So, if she was offered a chance to change that, shouldn't she take it? How crazy and unbelievable that chance might seem? This story is indeed in a way a rebirth story but it isn't your typical rebirth story. It is one where the second male lead actually gets the girl. So, if you have ever screamed at your screen over yet another female lead picking the horrible first male lead over the second just because he has realized the error of his ways and therefore all he has done in the past should be forgiven and forgotten, well then search no farther as this is the story for you! Join me in the first week of May as we start this story of how a single decision can determine a lifetime or change it! Until then, feel free to look at my just completed novel A devil's match :D

A crazy person

Laila, Maria and Steve were still in the hospital, waiting for his discharged to be processed and finalized. Meanwhile, over at Noah's side of things, he and the shadow were at the police station, waiting to find out more about the situation at hand. While the shadow was talking to an available officer, explaining who she was, or more so what she was, Noah was on the phone with Anthony. Neither Noah nor Anthony, wasted any time on formalities and the common introductory chitchat.

"Anthony, talk to me, what did you need to speak with me for?"

"Well, as you know I have been keeping my eye on Olivia ever since you and that bodyguard went to visit her to find out Harold's location. Despite her having been caught collaborating with an attempted murderer and fugitive, discovering that your feelings for her are most likely not real and probably having some type of loyalty to the man we are all chasing down, she didn't try to leave her house once or attempt to call him. I felt that this behaviour was very unnatural to me. It was all too suspiciously calm considering her current situation."

Noah found it funny to see how Anthony resembled him in this way. Not many people would find a calm person suspicious during a watch but this proved that he had been right in choosing him for the job. After a soft snorted laughter, Noah said, "Go on." and 'go on' Anthony did.

"So, I decided to look a bit more thoroughly at the information that the software developed by you and Mr. Branson had retrieved from miss Olivia's phone and laptop. At first there wasn't much to find other than what we already knew but something was still bugging me. So, then I went through her outgoing messages and calls for a second time and went back in time a bit longer. That is when I saw that there was an escape plan in one of the messages from over a year ago, which contained some type of code and an emergency number."

This information of course piqued Noah's interest. They had been searching for specific words with Steve's script but if there was code involved in their messages between each other, there could have been plenty they had missed. While Noah's level of concern increased, Anthony continued to tell him what he had discovered.

"Apparently Harold didn't have just two phones. He has his regular phone, the one he used to call to the office, he has the burner phone, which we discovered he had used to contact Olivia for his escape, but this message to Olivia proves that there was also third phone. I assume that this was a phone which had been bought and stored away for an occasion like this because when I looked into the number, I couldn't find any traffic for it. So, it seems that it was a phone that had never been used before, at least until now. Because apparently Olivia had sent a message to that phone just about forty minutes after you guys left."

Noah's eyes grew wide for a split second, before his face took on a more serious expression and his jaw began to clench up more. With gritted teeth Noah listen to Anthony as he told him how Olivia and Harold had managed to outsmart him and Olivia's words from earlier had been nothing more than a façade put on by a crazy person. As only a crazy person could want to destroy a person if they couldn't have him.

"I don't know when she did it. Maybe she took her phone to the bathroom with her and messaged him there or maybe there is another blind spot I don't know about. Either way, when I looked for messages to the number mentioned in the message from before, I found a coded message in the latest dated pulled from her phone. It was a message that didn't trigger the script, as it had been written in code and it had therefore slipped our radar initially. If I hadn't decided to freely search in the raw data with that number, we might have still not noticed what she had done."

Although Noah already knew what answer was coming, he still asked in an icy tone, "I see, and what is it that she has done?" Anthony was feeling a mixture of nervous, excited and slightly worried as he answered Noah's question and finally revealed the real discovery he had made. "Well, after I decoded miss Olivia's message using the code that Harold had suggested in his message from a year ago, I discovered that she had tipped Harold off. She told him that you and your bodyguard friend knew where he was going and that you were heading there too. I am not sure why she waited so long after you two left to do this. Maybe she wasn't sure if we were watching her. Maybe she wasn't sure if she wanted to do this at all. But either way, she sent it"
