Chapter 24

“Maybe I should leave it off, so our friendly killer can get in and search for whatever it is he thinks is here,” Spence replied, half joking, half serious.

“Naw. That would sort of defeat the idea that we want to catch him in the act, or something like that. And as of now, that subject is off the table, for tonight at least.”

Spence nodded, punched in the security code, then locked the door when they were on the front porch. “Do you want me to follow you?”

“Why take two cars?” Gregg grinned. “Unless you’re planning on stalking out of the restaurant in a huff because you don’t like the menu.”

“I’m not a huff and stalk out kind of man,” Spence replied with a laugh.

“Didn’t think so.”

During the drive to the restaurant, Spence pointed out places he remembered from growing up in the area. “That house, the green one? When the guy painted it, the neighbors were up in arms. Now look at the street. More colors than a rainbow.”

“Beats out dull white,” Gregg said. “Big time.”
