1 chapter 1

When I was a six-year-old girl, my older brother and I would stand on our rooftop every night and watch the stars with our rickety old telescope. We couldn't go a day without watching how the stars twinkled in the sky.

On one clear night sky I turned to my brother and asked "why do the stars dance?"

"Keisha the stars do not dance, they twinkle" my brother replied with a chuckle.

"But Erik don't you see? The stars are dancing!" "There not Keisha" he replied arrogantly

"Why would the stars dance for us? We have done nothing for them to dance for?" I asked curiously. My brother sighed; he knew whenever I asked a question, I would not let it go. He looked to the sky and said "You know, there is a reason why your stars dance" "REALLY!!! Would you please tell me?" "Of course, but it has to be quick, you need to go to bed" "OK!" "Let's begin."

"Eons ago, they danced by the light of the moon. Listening to the sound of the forest and the wind that blows from a far cluster of stars.

"Look at how the moon glows on our skin," the woman said to her lover but he simply smiled. And they continued their dance for the stars, and the stars watched silently in return. But that's all the stars could do, you see the stars had no shine they had no one to shine for, so all the stars could do was watch.

So in the stars' silent gaze they saw what only those in love could do, the two lovers ' dance was so passionate it looked like magic. As they danced they began to float, with each step they took the higher they rose. The stars were astonished by the dance of the lovers, it was beautiful like a scene from a dream. The lovers had given the stars a gift. But as they rose, the woman began to slip. She could not hold on to her lover's hands and so, she fell.

She fell from the stars with a scream and landed, her lover could not save her. He wept. For a long time, he stood with the dark stars and cried for his love, he could not believe she was gone. So, he looked up to the stars and floated to them. He begged and he begged for them to bring her back, but they could not. So, in turn he asked the stars if they could dance for him, if they could dance for the woman he lost and for the world they could have had. Then maybe she would be able to see them and remember that night.

The stars were amazed by the man's love for the woman, and could not remove the memory of the beautiful dance the man and the woman had shared. So, understanding the gift that the two lovers gave them, the stars began to dance. They danced until night broke to day. But the stars couldn't stop, they couldn't stop dancing, they had to share the gift that the lovers shared with them and so they didn't, an eternal dance that never ended, no matter where they were the stars danced, and brought light to the once dark night sky.

The man thanked the stars, he knew that even though the love of his life was gone, wherever he was, every night he would be reminded of the dance they shared. He looked up to the sky and said "A gift of an eternal dance."

"So, is that why the stars dance for us?" I asked "yes Keisha, that's why they dance" he replied "Wooooow"I said in amazement "KEISHA TIME FOR BED!" My mother called "awwww I don't wanna go to bed, I still want to see the stars dance!" "Goodnight Keisha," "Goodnight Erik," I said reluctantly. My brother looked to the sky and said "the gift of an eternal dance." and I simply smiled.
