273 The Fixer

Midas swiped the phone screen and put it to his ear only to hear the sobs of a woman on the other end.

"M-Midas, my son, w-where are you? W-why did you leave so suddenly?" said Belinda, her words barely audible through her sobs.

Midas had already come up with the perfect excuse though as he said, "Mother, I... I needed some time to think."

Belinda seemed to snap, regaining her earlier madness as she said, "Think?! Think about what?! What's wrong, my dear? Haven't we been living perfectly together? Haven't we been happy with each other? Why are you… uwahh!!"

Midas held the phone away from his ear as he heard possibly the loudest sob he had ever heard yet. Was she actually crying? Was she actually sad or did she just want him around because of what he had to offer?
