A Torchbearer’s Misfortune

Midas found himself in the comfort of his Living Box being summoned urgently to come to the Council Room because things had gone awry.

Blinking a few times, trying to see if this message would disappear if he blinked enough times, Midas found the disappointment growing heavier and heavier in his heart as time passed.

The message was not disappearing!

Midas begrudgingly got up, annoyed that his impromptu vacation had been cut short but also curious as to what could have possibly gone wrong. 

The Council was running a tight ship these days and it was rare for them to want Midas' ideas on anything. Ever since the last Council Meeting, they had handled things to perfection, delegating tasks and dealing with conflicts wherever they came up with expert precision.

Even the new Council Members had settled into their positions perfectly and this was merely a testament to their adaptability and the original Council's good vision.
