Whilst Takeshi and the principal were talking outside, the class inside was riddled with soft whispers. It seemed as if some people knew each other, whilst the natural extroverts were quickly forming friends.

Sarah had no interest in this, and even if she did, she would be too afraid to actually talk to someone. She put her head down on the table and closed her eyes, giving off the appearance of her sleeping peacefully.

"Heeeeeyyyy~, aren't you that girl from orientation? You must really like sleeping, huh," remarked a familiar voice.

Sarah glanced upwards and spotted a familiar pair of purple-coloured eyes.

"What are the odds we actually got into the same class? But why are you sleeping? Did you sleep last night? You know my mom's a nurse and she says sleep is essential for the human body to function"

Zoe fired off sentences one after one. Sarah took the opportunity of Zoe's last said sentence to say," Well if it's essential, why shouldn't I get more of it?"

"But... you should be talking to people. It's the middle of a beautiful day," Zoe said while prodding Sarah with her finger. Sarah finally relented and picked her head up.

At that moment, Mr Takeshi walked back into class. He turned to the class and said," Alrighty everyone, you guys are gonna meet your new teachers now, so follow me for a tour of the school. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the layout, cause I ain't doing this again."

He gave no prior indication to his conversation with the principal in the hallway.

The rest of the day went by quickly to Sarah. They met a variety of teachers whose name she didn't bother to remember for now.

She had lunch alone as she knew no one, and she was fine with it considering she didn't want to socialize at the moment. Of course, that didn't happen and Zoe sat next to her and started talking at her usual rapid pace. She couldn't remember what Zoe said as she was too focused on her sandwich.

From there, they toured a few more rooms, which consisted of the gym and science lab. Finally, they passed a room with a blinding white door.

"Excuse me, sir?" asked a student whose name Sarah didn't know.

"Yes?" Mr Takeshi asked grumpily.

"What's behind that door?" the student questioned.

Mr Takeshi replied," Nothing you can see yet," and moved on.

The end of the day soon came, and Sarah began her walk home.

"Ah crap, Mom is probably home by now," she sighed, "she's probably still miffed from her argument with dad this morning," Sarah thought to herself, before deciding to cut through the park to save time. The route after usually had some food stalks and she wanted to eat before getting home. As she passed through the park, she noticed a boy with a camera squatting by a flower, taking pictures of it.

"Where have I seen his face before….." she pondered as she passed him. After a few minutes, she remembered.

" Ah, wasn't he the kid who pointed out the sigil class?"

She couldn't confirm as she had walked too far away.

Stopping in the same store she stopped by this morning, she was greeted by a familiar voice behind the counter.

" Hey, kiddo, how are ya doing? How was school?" Gruff asked cheerfully.

"It was fine," Sarah replied after much thought.

"Ah, that's good then. So what brings you here again?" He asked.

" Food," she replied almost immediately.

"Oh, well take as much time as you-" he was interrupted by Sarah putting a few miniature cakes, a soda and a pack of gum on the counter.

" I never will know how you manage to move so quickly and silently. You're like a ninja." He said as he rang up the bill.

"Like a ninja huh….." she thought before asking," Hey Gruff, do you have a sigil?"

Gruff was surprised before answering," Indeed I do, little lady. Would you like to see?"

Sarah nodded, intrigued. At that moment a previously hidden mark on Gruff's forearm glowed, shining through the fabric of his clothes. Nearby him an assortment of small metallic objects was drawn to his hands, consisting of a safety pin and a paperclip.

"Did ya see what you wanted to see, kid?" Gruff said after dropping the items on the counter.

"Yeah, I did. Thanks, Gruff. See ya tomorrow," Sarah said as she walked out of the store.

[{Sarah became fascinated by sigils, though the thought of what would happen when she got home overtook her thoughts. The existence of sigils was actually common knowledge, but, due to  her inherent shyness and lack of social skills, she never got the chance to learn of them.

As she ruminated over this and ate her snack, she walked to the front of her house. It was half-covered in the shadow of the tree in the backyard. Her mother was home, she could tell by the car in the driveway. Sarah sighed and opened the door.

She continued to walk and eat her snack, only stopping at the front of her house. The house itself  was half-covered in the shadow of the tree in the backyard. Her mother was home, she could tell by the car in the driveway. Sarah sighed and opened the door.
