CHAPTER 16

Alpha Zeev's POV

I walked out of the bedroom after a few more hours of sleep, leaving Fenrir on the bed. I walked away to meet a guard by the door.

" Alpha Zeev," he said bowing.

" What brought you here this early," I asked, raising my eyebrows.

" We have news that the rogue wolves have come out into the capital, and the guards weren't able to handle any of them." He replied not daring to look in my eyes.

" Are they so useless now that they aren't able to catch a few rogue wolves," I asked intimidatingly.

" They seem to have gotten stronger Alpha Zeev, their fangs have gotten more elongated and they seem to be able to take in the arrows from the guards without getting weaker," he reported tentatively.

" Is there any lead about where they have been? and have there been any casualties from the people in the capital?" I asked, finally giving much attention to his reports.

" No my Lord, the guards have been stationed at each nook and cranny of the capital which makes it hard for them to attack," he said again giving answers to my question.

" Let's head out now, call my wife's maid, and ask that she be attended to, without leaving her side today, she shouldn't leave out to the capital today," I said, taking another look at the woman on the bed sleeping soundly.

I walked back to the bedroom, giving her a light kiss on her lips before turning to leave with the guard.

" This is where he was last seen, my Lord," the guard said, tracing the footprint of the wolf left behind.

" He isn't too far from here, I can smell the dangerous intent of danger, " I replied , walking stealthily into the woods.

The body of a rogue wolf lay on the floor with unending blood flowing out of it.

" Don't move closer, it's not injured, his heartbeat seems normal and it's most likely to be a trap," I said, halting the guard in his steps.

" There are blood and cuts on his body and he seems to be lifeless," the guard argued, paying no heed to my words, he walked closer to the body that lay on the ground.

I gave no further response and waited for the next actions.

The sudden change of state of the wolf's paw on the guard, who was now lying on the floor proved my point.

I watched coldly as the guard was being gripped and almost devoured, unable to free himself from the paws of the wolf.

His eyes poked out in fear, as he reached out for help.

I darted my eyes toward the wolf, before throwing the sword in my hands to its chest. It fell to the ground making whimpers.

" You should know better than anyone when and when not to prove smart, I could hear his heartbeat and the blood wasn't coming from him," I analysed, taking another look at the body on the ground.

" He's not completely a rogue, his senses are still intact but his thirst for blood is uncontrollable, someone is behind this, "I said walking away from the wood.

For a split second, my mind drifted to Fenrir in the pack, " let's head to the capital, they will be roaming," I said, hastening my steps to the capital.

" Tighten the security around the pack house and make sure my wife is protected at all costs," I said, cleaning dirt from wolf and hurriedly trotting away from the woods.

The panicked look on the faces of the people in the pack was heaten my nerves.

" There's a rogue wolf held in captivity here, Alpha Zeev," a guard called out from the crowd.

I walked towards the gathering, giving no time to the details, I plunged the sword straight into his chest and turned to walk away.

Following the trail of the other rogue that had gotten away, I walked into the pack, for the first time panicking at the thought of Fenrir being in danger.

I hastened my steps walking faster as I followed its trail.

The whiff of the natural Rosy smell of Fenrir filled my nostrils, as I trailed the rogue wolf to the moon glitter.

Her tiny voice filled my ears as she struggled with her maid in who and who not to leave for the other.

" Leave my Lady, I've sworn to protect you and that's what I'm doing now, go get help," I heard the languid voice of Kayla from a distance.

" She's fine," I muttered to myself, heaving a sigh of relief as I plunged forward in front of the two women.

" Zeev" , her frightened voice called out, and her eyes laden with tears as she ran toward me. With the rogue wolf making a move to jump after her, I threw my sword straight at its chest, catching the woman who was running into my arms.

Her sobs made a stark contrast to the silent air of the moon glitter before she fell unconscious in my arms.

I darted a look at Kayla who fell to the ground stupefied.

" Are you okay," I asked her carrying Fenrir in my hands as I moved away.

" Take her to the infirmary, and make sure she's well taken care of," I ordered the guard who came rushing to me.

" My Lady, is she fine?" she asked not giving face to the guard that had moved over to carry her, "I swear that I did protect her from that thing," she continued talking.

" I know," I gave a curt reply, nodding to the guard to take her away, I walked with Fenrir back to the bedroom.

Her eyes were scrunched and her lashes fluttered in my arms.

" Call the physician and bring him over to the room," I said, almost unable to hide the fear in my voice.

I walked briskly into the bedroom, not daring to be at ease.

My mind was thrown in disarray thinking of the possibilities of everything that could have happened if I hadn't arrived on time.
