chapter one:The truth

Amber's pov

"mom where's dad" I asked.

"he'll be back soon, why don't you get ready first" mom said with a smile. I muttered a quick okay and went upstairs.

hi I'm amber and I'm a black girl living with white people. life isn't always easy being black in a community full of racists. I quickly put on my tank top, ripped jeans and denim jacket.

Today was my first day of school in Los Angeles even though my parents had to pull out a few strings to get me enrolled,I had to go to school for four weeks. my parents moved us from new York to LA but didn't let me know why.According to my big brother, Greg, they moved because of their business and I believed in an instance.

I got my backpack ready and was about to head down stairs when I heard voices arguing

"mom, how long are we going to house her, I'm sick of my classmates calling her my sister, she's annoying and makes me sick, I hate her mom" I heard Jane, my sister, complaining in the kitchen.

"it's only a matter of time before she graduates and we'll send her back to NY to complete her college studies, okay baby then she'll be out of your hair, she makes me sick too but your dad is only keeping her here because her relatives are paying him for taking care of that brat, and we're also gaining from the money they're sending her so don't worry about it, it's only a matter of time " I heard my mom say. As I listened to them complain about me it broke my heart. The people who took care of me for 15 years have been stealing for me and collecting money for their selfish gain. Every word they said made my blood boil, they were the worst.

I had to put my self together and think of something to get them back, the reason they hate me is because they're racists too.

I wiped my tears and went down stairs pretending like nothing had happened.

"mom I'm ready" I said forcing a smile.

I had to put on this act for a while because in a four weeks I'll be graduating high school.

"okay baby, the driver is outside, Jane are you ready to go? " mom said smiling

"yes I'm ready, let's go sister " Jane said smiling, then held my hand and we made our way out of the door and into the car.
