Book 1:Chapter 10: Conning

Walking towards the adventurer's guild location, he saw a line not far from the entrance of the establishment he noticed that around of the people on the line is 50+ Levels above.

He then asked a brawny buff build man.

"Good day sir, why is there a long line here?" He asked.

"It's because this is the registration before you can accept and be a formal member of the adventurer's guild." Said the man.

"I see I'm new here and also wanting to join to earn, may I ask do you know what's the requirements?" Regal asked.

"First you need to be a level 50+ above, and there's an combat screening test to see if you're mediocre or a rare talent. Because they don't accommodate just anyone here and also before you can participate in the test you need 500 gold. For other big city gold isn't really needed but here that most of civilian live it does have some use." The man said, then he took a pause and look at the shabby looking Regal and he saw the level of Regal which is 5. "Kid you better raise your level and hone yourself first. Being an adventurer isn't that simple you may die. And also do you have any gold the way you look seems like you haven't ate yet" The man said to Regal.

'I don't have any gold and I'm way too low leveled yet to be even noticed, maybe I should raise some level first but I'm really hungry there must be place where I can sell hides of the monster I killed' Regal thought to himself.

Looking embarrassed "Thank you good sir, you're right. May I ask is there some shop in the town that accepts monster hides?"

"There is that is the basic income of lots of adventurers before they become strong. Alright young man just go there to the right of that triangle crossroad and from there go straight and you'll see it. It's always lively there so you'll see it there" The guy said.

Regal bowed and left.

Midst of the bustling city Regal doesn't know what to do nor he can decide what to do after learning that he can't be an adventurer that easy.

After a long time of walking he found himself back near the city exit just a few meters away.

'I should level myself first to meet the first requirement, then find a way to to join adventurer's guild. I should sell these hides for than let it rot in my inventory'

After selling some hides of the monster he collected and slain he got a total of 5 Gold, tho it is a big sum for the mortal. But for adventurer it isn't that big, he bought some clothes and restocking food and water. And he got 3 gold coins left, if food alone it can last for a month by buying bread and water alone.

"Hey traveler you must be a hunter right? I got some items here for sell for you! This is just a promo specially for you. It will make you stronger as you can see this item is rare even in the whole city" Said the man who suddenly approached him.

The man isn't that tall just average a bit skinny but you can't hide the cleverness on his eyes. He's a bit dirty that looks like a beggar but not that totally a beggar.

Regal looked at the man confused as the man offering a strange looking dull red looking ruby but isn't a ruby with a size of a fist.

"Sir hesitate not this is a real item that came from our ancestry. This is our ancestral item my clan declines and they move and before my mom and dad died I'm the only one left. I don't really want to sell this but I haven't eaten for 3 days *sob* *sob*..."

The man sobbed pretentiously but Regal didn't seem to notice the cunning gleam on the man's eyes.

Regal is a 16 years old inexperience boy after all, tho he's not that benevolent but he was convinced and felt a pity for the man. But he won't be so dumb to give all his money and at least not take the item.

'It's an item from his clan and he's the only one left what a tough life, this item must be special.'

He sigh and remove the thought he just want to help the man.

"Alright how much? I don't have much on me that is your ancestral item I don't think I can afford..."

Before Regal finish his sentence the man eyes gleamed with a cunning and delight.

"Just for 5 gold and this will be yours dear sir!" Said the skinny man.

"I don't have that much sorry!" said regal.

"Sir okay since you're willing to buy and I really need to food I'll sell this reluctantly for 3 gold" said the man faking the reluctance look on his face.

Regal thought for a moment he does have 3 gold and bought already his food and basic needs that will last for a while, but still it's a little expensive on his part.

"How about 2 Gold? that's all I have. I really wanna help but really that's all I have" Said Regal helplessly with a sigh.

The man pause and hesitated for a moment and then sigh with a reluctant look he gave the stone with exchanging 2 gold for it. And sped of to run away.

'I'm so smart my acting skills is the best he believe me that I only had 2 gold when I really have three' Feeling great he stride, and he decided to put the stone for in his inventory for later examinations.

He then stride towards the town exit and decided to stay for while there while examining the stone on his hand. but except for the strange carving in the middle of the stone nothing else.

No magic feeling or anything else.

"Maybe I just don't know, but this thing is from his ancestral so this must be some treasure"

Reassuring himself he put away the stone and begin to walk at the forest and hunt.

While running into the alleyway the man look left and right and couldn't hold but laugh.

"That idiot guy he bought that useless stone for 2 gold. He's clearly just an inexperience young man, I even go to some shop to sell and some multiple appraisal and clearly that stone is useless"

Feeling delighted that he conned someone and got free 2 gold he smile smugly like that he's the smartest guy in the world.

'Tho that stone is from that mysterious rift on that big altar I'm sure it's useless, ayt tho that stone looked like a treasure it's useless even in our realm a lot of strong leader appraised it as some stone with design' He thought still smiling smugly.

Smack!

He got smacked at the back of his head, getting interrupted from thinking he glared and shouted.

"Who smacked this noble Lor..." Before he can finish his word his eyes constricted and went wide.

"Lord? Why are you so smugly smiling and why are you on disguise? Did you con another guy again? And also what's with the disguise of being a mortal huh?" The woman clad in armor of color red with elegant lotus design.

"I'm not! You know that my heart is pure as lotus untainted and as white as the snow. I will never con anyone!" He immediately rebuked sounding righteous without slightest bit of shame.

"Hmmmp! If I learned that you conned someone I'll put you in place, let's go the captain said that the preparations is done to go at that rift" The women clad in armor said.

"Ayyyyyt. That fast? I was having a great time on this little vacation, why so stiff it's not life the rift is going anywhere" He said with a flash a blurry mist covered him and he looked different, clad in red armor with elegant lotus design his hair spiky orange with tall nose if you consider it over all the young man is not bad looking.

"Really? Should I say that to our captain that your fun is more important than our mission here?"

The woman glared then walk off after that.

"I don't dare! Wait up!" He followed along begging not to tell what he said to the captain.

From the looks of it the guy is some powerful figure but loves to fool around and has a hobby of conning people with feeling proud that he is smart, and from the looks of it he didn't really need gold. If Regal saw this he might even think that this young man is a noble young lord of some aristocrat family. And he might cough up some blood from anger to see this man conned him while he's definitely richer and stronger than him!
