What are we doing?

The cloudless now sky looked amazing. Stars shone brighter than normal. Almost seeing the galaxies all around the world. A very beautiful view. Blue sky with purple laces decorated with stars. I followed them to the dark blue woods. Really cold… I need to move. I can't lose any heat. Even a minute without any kind of exercise could literally kill me…

I caught up to them, well, they weren't that far away. The woods look very scary… They seem very cold even when I don't touch them. Leaves didn't even fall down from the trees. Not a single leaf. Only grass and earth which was entirely blue. I don't know how we will survive…

"We need to make a fire. Really quick." Estel Nodded while looking around. Probably for animals.

"I can do it." Marcus quickly answered while also looking around. "I just need two sticks as dry as possible." He added and then looked around in the depths of the woods. Trying to catch any dry crook left behind or anything that could be useful in creating fire.

"We will then try to find food. I will go with Matthew." Estel said and leaned down. He just did something with his hands and then stood up. "I found a small flint knife!" I was surprised. What's the chance of him finding it in literal minutes into the woods. What is that luck…

He then took a long stick from the ground and started to sharpen it with that shiv. It took him some time but since the sticks were almost made of ice. Like an ice shard on a stick. Sounds kind of funny to me… Why though? There is nothing to laugh at… Estel found two more sticks of similar length. Pretty long staves. He made pikes out of it. So we had three spears. When he was sharpening them we all were moving to keep our heat. It seems dumb but it actually makes me feel a little warmth even in this hellish cold.

"Hayden you need to look out for dangers. I can't take you with us because we can't leave Marcus alone here. Take the spear and if something happens, try… We will do our part as quickly as possible and return." He then took one of the spears, Matthew grabbed another one and of course, I also took one. They both ran straight to the dark woods and I saw their silhouettes disappear in the pitch black of blue woods…

"Okay, Hayden. We need to find dry sticks or anything like that. It shouldn't be hard so just look around a little and be careful of any wildlife. There are many animals here that are really deadly even for experienced men." He started going around and looking under trees trying to find the sticks. I followed while holding my spear with its tip down.

"I hope Lucas can find us…" I thought to myself. I didn't want to say it out loud. It just feels… Weird. All of the sticks on the ground were so cold that even water within them was frozen. They were snapping like matches.

Bushes… Bushes here must be like a ball of blades or needles. How can an animal survive in this kind of environment? No food besides other predators or very weird herbivores.

"Marcus… Since you are a hunter… What kind of animals can survive in this kind of place?" I'm very curious about it but when I now think more into it… I actually don't want to know. I don't want to know what is going to make me afraid.

"Mostly predators… I can say that bears are here for sure. Some snow tigers, probably powerful ones at that… There should also be some minor animals like ferrets with a dark barrier or something like that. From herbivores. Hmm... There would be really few. Maybe deers with a high amount of power? Or other large animals that also fall into that eating category. Since most of the water is frozen there shouldn't be any alligators or fish population. There is some flowing water but it then has to have some special properties to it. Or some of the animals may even have fire properties… Wait! That's genius! There must be a fire tiger or something here. But no… It's too risky actually." He held back and then held his chin with the tips of his fingers. I think he wants to reduce the work as much as possible but still doesn't want too much risk.

"Besides… There could be some places left behind by fire beasts and some sticks still on fire or all dried up… That would be good but there is still some risk…" He looked at me with a curious gaze. A gaze that was so terrifying in its clear curiosity.

"..." I know that there is no other answer. I can't answer otherwise. 'Yes?'. I cannot say it. I can only look at him. Horrified.

"Let's try at least…" He stopped looking at me, I gasped. He energetically stared right in the dark… deep… woods.

"How will they find us back though?" I asked him since it's very important for us to know how to find ourselves. If we lose one another, it will become very problematic.

"We will have to come to the same place. Let's make a small mark on the tree with that spear." He explained and took the spear from me. Gently. He didn't rip it from my hand. Just took it quietly away. "Let's try at least. I will defend you." I know that this plan is dumb. It really is. Why are we going to risk anything? Even looking at an animal's leftovers could be dangerous. And the chance of finding other people… Is even worse.

That man… Psycho. Showed me that men are not different from animals that just want to find prey. Want to enjoy ensuing pain on someone. A very scary thing… A scary thought… Why are we so… Bad to one another? Why are we killing our own kind? Even if we are of different races we are all humans… We all feel love. We all feel pain. So why?

We went to the woods together. Spear in Marcus's hands made me feel a little safer since his skill with it was much prior to mine. We were looking around and trying to find some light in the forest. The light that could lead us to fire or any kind of heat. It's a dumb idea. I'm sure that it's going to end very badly.

"Marcus… We should just find normal sticks on the ground… We shouldn't risk…" I'm really hesitant. And really scared… I don't want to risk so much for a stupid stick!

"Where will we find other sticks in this kind of environment? I don't think there is a better idea than that actually…" Again the thinking position.

"We should just search normally and not risk. What if we get attacked? What will we do then? You can't use your powers and I don't even have them. If we get attacked…" His palm in my eyes almost hit me. The sign that just clearly said 'stop'.

"Did you forget that I'm a hunter? Even though my skills may be rusty they aren't completely lost." Marcus proudly answered. He must be very sure of his hunter skills. Should I just go for it… God damn it… I don't think I have a choice. He will just go on with the hunter thing again.

"Okay… Let's go, Marcus…" Unenthusiastically added while he already started moving to the woods. "Why did I agree!?" I again asked myself why in the world I agreed. What the hell am I thinking? We can die there for sure! I hope we can find Lucas or anyone… Only the two of us won't do us any good… Especially when it comes to me.

The place we left behind got covered by the trees we passed by. It just vanished behind them… Also, the grass is slowly getting less annoying as I'm getting used to walking on it. Blood also stopped dripping off them so I could just go as I normally did.

"Do you see that?" Marcus asked me while pointing at something with his fingers. "Do you see that light?" There was light there but I didn't want to actually say it once again.

"Yeah…" I answered it anyway, very hesitant and scared.

"We can slowly go there! If that's an animal that is moving right now maybe we can get some dry sticks." Luck smiled at us. It is less than ten minutes into the woods and we find a trail of what we are looking for… We then slowly started crouching in its way…

"Why are we doing this?" I asked myself once again. With no answer, I just followed Marcus's instructions...

We, humans, are always listening. We always do listen to people of experience. Our own thoughts will never be 'better' than his because of experience. So what do we do then? Nothing. We just go behind like a slave behind his owner. And we cannot do much better. Because they know more.

That's what they often think. But we have actually more in mind than they imagine.
