Gu Zhen Ren
Wow… I mean, what do you even say to this chapter? I understand now why the heart of a demon never has regret. What is there to regret when you’ve truly lived every moment of your life to the fullest? I understand now why Fang Yuan was laughing facing his own death when Spring Autumn Cicada failed to active on Yi Tian Mountain. Why fear death when you’ve given everything you had and died in pursuit of your goals? I understand now why only perseverance remains in Fang Yuan’s heart. What greater ideal and self-fulfilment is there than to live life completely according to your own intentions? You call a person like this a lunatic and a madman? Fine, then I don’t want to be sane. You call a person like this a true demon? Fine, then I don’t want to be righteous. Fang Yuan is Human beyond Ren Zu. This is why it’s impossible for me to dislike Fang Yuan despite everything he has done. There is something about this level of commitment toward a goal that may not even be possible to begin with and voluntarily choosing to live in a way against and hunted by the entire world that even death is no deterrent that deeply resonates with the human spirit. I just can’t help wanting to see someone who “wants it” this much succeed. I must express my gratitude to this author. His work has taught me much more about how to live my life than I ever thought could be possible. What boggles my mind is how this author was able to craft such an intricate world with so many unusual ideas not seen elsewhere and weave them into a multi-thousand chapter long story across more than half a decade with so few inconsistencies and at the same time incorporate so many different areas of knowledge together such as philosophy, sociology, politics, and psychology in a way that is easy for the readers to understand and appreciate. What’s more, from the picture of the author, he appears to be quite young, around his mid to late 20s or so. It is quite an achievement.
So many people were wondering what could "change" FY into a demon, from how he was in these scenes to his current self. Well, the answer is here. FY was already a demon by this point. The only difference was that he hadn't returned to his original goal of eternal life and was still searching for simple satisfaction to his life. A lot of similarities to BNB looking for what is most interesting are also evident.
Everything I said before seem like a joke. There was never a need for a special event or love to cause a drastic change in our MC. It was already there, from the start! This chapter is so powerful. The revealing of his stance, of his view on life, makes his character so much more real, more human. People wonder what makes this novel different from other novels. It's the fact that ideals clash. It's the fact that people stick to their ideals even in the face of death, even when powerless. It's the fact that morals and life advises are discussed. It's the fact that the characters actually feel like they live a life, not templates whose purpose is to incite wrath or objects who will be left alone and forgotten. It's the fact that the world is systematically built up upon ideals and morals of real life and further developed through the story telling process. I am blessed to have read such a good novel.
There's been many memorable moments in this novel. Raising his aptitude with the Blood Path skull, flying away from the Bone Inheritance, refining an Immortal Gu as a mortal, becoming an Immortal Zombie while besieged, both battles at Yi Tian Mountain, forging Perseverance, fighting the Shadow Sect and the Heavenly Court, the Dream Path Formation, etc. But this subdue moment of reminiscing is ranks amongst them as one of the key moments of the story.
hahahaha! the author doesn't disappoint, I was worried that the cause of FY transformation is because a tragedy happened to the mermaid like how people speculated in previous chapters, but to me that would have been disappointing as it was too mundane of an event to cause such a drastic transformation. hahahaha but the mad author did it! the answer not only was amazing but it made me like FY more than I already did! the answer is while some things changed, the essence of FY's character never did (which IMO is the best character development) and that he just didn't find his ultimate goal yet. I can only express my gratitude to the author for bringing us this amazing story. thank you.
The previous chapters were already good, with the feeling of nostalgia the superposition between present and past gave. But with this chapter, this subact clearly became one of the greatest ones in the novel, one that you can't help remember vividly even a long time afterwards. It might not be as "epic" as the FIT refinement, or the Reverse Flow River conquest, but it is just as powerful.
