To be fair, I was never all that emotionally invested in ZLY and MHY, I've seen contempt for them, but rationally speaking we should be grateful to them because they set up this wonderful opportunity to for Fang Yuan to show us his guts. We should not hate them. We should look down on them. I'll admit the flashbacks kind of endeared me to MHY, but this a retard with nothing but luck going for him is just stupid. ZLY had a lot of potential. A reincarnee with a no-nonsense disposition, she had the potential to become the next Fang Yuan, but she fell in love with MHY and now she's turned into a total pussy. The resourcefulness and practicality that made her so formidable is nowhere to be seen. All that's left of her is a weak, pathetic girl head-over-heels for a dead idiot.
No one is more deserving of this gu. I was worried ma hong yun or the zhao lian Yun might get it because fortune rivalling heaven and love gu but i guess perseverance is also rank 9 and not easily influenced. 500 years of hardship is finally rewarded and im just really happy that finally something is going his way.

It really is fitting if you think about it. Fang Yuans biggest enemy is heavens will. Heavens will is basicly Fate. Fate means everything is decided from the start, no matter how much you want something and no matter how hard you try it wont matter. Hard work is worthless in a world run by fate. Hard work is basicly Perseverance. Its a battle of beliefs in life where if one is true the other one is false so both Fate Gu and Perseverance Gu dont want the other to exist. Which explains why the Venerable never told anyone how to refine it since he was the leader of the group that enforces Fate. But just like Fate Gu, Perseverance Gu cant influence things directly so it needs a host or champion of sorts to do it and who better to champion Perseverance than Fang Yuan.
