At first I misread the chapter's title as "The Dessert Plan" and thought that it would be about Roland planning a lavish course of decadent ice cream dessert to conquer the hearts and stomachs of the southern desert inhabitants but then I realized there was only one 's'.

The reverse flowing water sounds like it could be some witch device or otherwise magic phenomenon

(Is this an alienception?) (Aliens x Aliens get help from an alien from another dimension xDD) I'm guessing the correct term here would be foreigner, and not alien. Though the words have the same, hm, let's say origin-meaning, with time they are used somewhat differently. And with this novel where there are many kinds it'd be best to keep it different.
