I think only reason he will join police because he need to legitimate carry gun, he can join them when apocalypse going to begin though and can ignore order with no one have time to arrest him later.

Thanks for translating catties into grams. I hope you've done the same with other measurements in the upcoming chapters. Converting unfamiliar units of measurement is a pain and it takes you out of the story.
