So many things wrong with this chapter.... He is lucky Smile is really an apprentice... You would expect anyone who has the balls to have a summoned pet go around the city would be someone of a higher rank. Then he uses magic at a public place to sneak in (the pub) ... even though before this he was so careful to only use it rarely in the sewers. And he somehow manages to sneak in without any description given of how he really did it.
In general, this book is food so far, but there are a few sloppy things, like how he suddenly doesnt feel irritated with the ingredients for crying soul potion. As someone from a modern science world without magic, a student and not a criminal, never indulge himself in similar acts as now. I expect he wouldn't even have the courage or mindset to drink a potion made out of ingredients from dead bodies, brains and such. Though, he hasn't made or drank it yet. Also, tracking an unknown sorcerer or sorceresses while been a newbie? Under the tight investigation been carried by the church, he shouldn't even think of such methods, at least for the time being.
