Well, he's the main character! What can you say :) Getting a heaven spirit roots is actually rare tho... Usually it'd be mediocre with a 'lucky' totem or grandpa, haha

So... much... info-dumping... But I guess the author is just trying to do some proper worldbuilding at the start, which is probably good? The first few chapters always tend to be somewhat bad when the author is still introducing stuff and finding his pace.

What if it's BETTER than the heavenly spirit root and the elderly man just doesn't recognize it properly? :P
