4 DAY 27

DAY 27

It had been 3 hours since the male and female accident victims were brought to the ER. It had been touch and go for the man. The girl had somewhat stabilized and was still unconscious. They were still trying to identify her. The biggest thing was that Dr. Eva had stayed despite her shift being over. She called me over,

"What is the status on patient Grey?" she asked me. Why was she so concerned with him, he did not know? Though he was new so perhaps they were family.

"His right side was impacted. We have ribs and arms fractured. Some of the bones punctured the lung, they are now trying to remove the fragments from the lungs and stop all the internal bleeding." He replied what he knew.

"Suddenly, the door opened and two people rushed in. he knew one of them it was Dr. Rush and a tall black man in a suit."

"Where is he", Dr. Rush asked while huffing showing that he had run all the way.

"He is in the ER; they are trying to remove debris and get him stabilized."

Dr. Rush took his chart and started reading, her expression becoming paler as she read on.

Dr. Eva turned to the other tall man," You and I have to talk. Come with me to the office."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The office was spacious. Two people were sitting staring at each other. The atmosphere was stifling. The elder lady spoke first,

"Hos is it that my most capable doctor quits his job for personal reasons, saying that he has to travel a bit, yet I find the same guy lying in my ER. The same guy has also been a teacher in a high school for a little more than a month. Now, I would have to find his best friends for answers though he only has one, so let me ask you. What exactly is going on here Mark."

The man was quiet. He was just as or perhaps even more worried than the intimidating lady in front of her. He could not tell her; this was his best friend's secret to tell and he hoped with all his heart that he would wake up himself to explain himself.

"I am sorry Dr. Eva, its his secret to tell, but I can tell you this that he did not lie." He explained somewhat guiltily.

Someone knocked at her door, and in came a nurse. The girl has woken up, she is a bit winded but she is fine but she is not telling us about her guardians.

Dr. Evan had a frown on her face. It was visible from the accident that Grey had shielded the girl, was it a coincidence or perhaps there was something more. Just then Mark spoke,

"Her name is Shina Evergreen; she is a high schooler. Her father is Mr. Alfred evergreen, a lawyer. Their relationship is not exactly normal. Its no wonder she would be hesitant."

"You seem to know her quite well," Dr. Eva asked with a raised eyebrow.

"We have met, through mutual friends of course."

She had just woken up in a hospital. Her head still hurt but overall, except the persistent pain in her chest she felt fine. She could remember it all, the truck, the accident and the lunge. She had so many questions. She wanted to know why had he done that, why had he saved her. Just then two people entered her room.

She recognized one of them, it was Mark Silvern, a friend of Mr. Grey. The other lady seemed to be a doctor. Gosh she had enough of doctors, in her life.

"I hope you are feeling well, Miss Evergreen. I just wanted to ask you some questions?" the doctor spoke, her nametag showing her to Dr. Evangeline.

"How is Mr. Grey,' she asked worried for her teacher and savior.

Both oh their faces shifted, showing her that he was not fine.

"He is in the ER; we are hoping for the best. Now, how are you familiar with Dr. Grey."

"He was our homeroom teacher. I -----, I had a problem at home he helped me out, we were passing by the orphanage and then the crash happened."

She hadn't lied completely only left out what she deemed personal.

Just as she was about to ask more about him, she could hear some beeping sound.

Dr. Eva took out her phone and rushed out of her room.

"What is going on here?" she asked seeing a bunch of doctors rushing machines into his room.

"He is flat lining, we are preparing a vent and starting CPR."

"Good, have a vent ready and look out for blood donors and put him on a liver transplant list. With his credentials he would be quite up there."

"I am sorry Dr. Eva, but you can not do that. You can not put him on a vent." Mark spoke from her side.

"AND WHY THE HELL CAN'T I PUT HIM ON A VENT, MARK" she was getting frustrated and angry at him for hiding things from her. He himself looked guilty and appeared to have aged a couple of years.

"Its because he signed a DNR." He spoke in a small voice, his voice cracking while saying it. He was his friend Afterall.

She and Dr. Rush were shocked, he was so young and brilliant why would he sign a DNR. Dr. Rush shouted at Mark," And when did he do that?"

"3 weeks ago." He said while visibly trying to keep his own tears at bay.

"WHY THE HELL WOULD HE DO THAT, YOU BETTER HAVE SOME VERY GOOD REASON THEIR MARK. OTHERWISE, I WILL THROW YOU OUT OF HERE."

"I am sorry," he spoke finally tears falling out of his eyes.

"AND WHAT WERE YOU DOING WHEN HE WAS BEING AN IDIOT. YOU SHOULD HAVE CALLED US, BUT NO YOU JUST HAVE TO KEEP ALL HIS SECRETS TO YOURSELF. I DON'T GIVE A DAMN ABOUT THE DNR. GET HIM ON THE VENT."

Everyone just looked at Dr. Rush she had never been this angry. Usually, she would be laughing and joking bundle but right now she looked like a ferocious beast. They all just stood there, conflicted on what to do,

"I SAID GET HIM ON A VENT. ARE YOU ALL DEAF." She shouted.

"You can't do that. You could lose your license," Mark spoke from the side.

"AND DO YOU THINK I CARE. GET HIM A VENT!" she said while moving towards his stretcher probably getting ready to move him. Mark moved to stop her but was stopped by Dr. Eva, who just gestured him to stop.

"Get Dr. Grey a vent," Mark looked haggard at the announcement and Dr. Rush gained some color in her skin. "And call the dean, get him to start an ethics committee on the case."

Three best friends were in the same room at that time. Two heartbroken, while the other just broken.
