" The house looked Grimm and sullen.

Must've been abandoned for a long time.

Even without life, the house was sustaining itself well. "

• The house •

There was a house at the end of the street, popularly known as a "haunted" house. The house surely gave off an eerie feeling, for it was lifeless, empty and silent for a long time. Despite that, the house still stood strong on its foundations even till date. As if it didn't need anyone to take care of it.

Many were scared of approaching the house or even wandering near it. Some claimed of hearing uncanny noises coming from the house in the dark of the night. Some even tried to give dares to go inside the house for a short and fixed amount of time while playing truth and dare, as a challenge to show courage. Some said they have seen apparitions near the house. Some say it has a history of hauntings.

What was the truth? We did not know as of yet. As some don't believe it to be haunted at all. The house was the centre of controversy in our locality and many would not even dare to cross by it or even enter it. It was believed to be cursed. It was believed to bring jinx.

The house stood tall and strong,

Still standing even in the storm,

The seasons change,

But the Grimm, sullen and lifeless house remains.

One day my brother arrived, huffing. He took some deep breaths, his eyes seemed to have seen something that they didn't want to see or shouldn't have seen. I asked him what was wrong but he didn't answer. He seemed terrified, the look in his eyes was unsettling.

He told me that I wouldn't believe him even if he told me what happened to him just now.

I assured him that I would listen and not judge him. For some reason, the pit of my stomach was churning. I was anxious. My gut said something wasn't right. I just didn't know why but I was still curious to hear my brother out.

He began telling me about his outing with his friends and how they all decided to hang out at the house on the end of the street and check it out for themselves if the rumours were true.

It began as a test of courage, dividing into groups of 2, each consisting of 3 members. My brother and his group were the first to enter the house.

They carried a flashlight inside as the supply of electricity in the house was long cut off. At first, it was all fun and games. They checked each room in the house and found two of them locked. They began looking for the keys, they weren't aware that they disturbing the order of the house.

Soon some noises were heard from inside the locked doors. One of them found a bunch of keys. They decided to try opening the door and check for themselves.

I could tell, whatever they saw it wasn't pleasant, for he paused and his breaths were heavy, his face turned pale losing its complexion.

They were successful at opening the door but what they saw hiding in the shadows of the room in the dark of the night was not just bone-chilling but terrifying. The kind of terror that cannot be expressed. Words fall too short for it.

A creature dark and dirty, with horns coming out of its head, looked at them with glowing eyes, a thick red liquid dripping off its mouth and hands. The creature looked really hungry. What it was feeding on was more terrifying than the creature itself.

It was feeding, he continued, gulping hard, a lump down his throat, on the dead mutilated body of his friends. He said now that he remembers it, he never heard any sounds of the other group, they had all forgotten about them. So this is what had happened to them.

Before the creature attacked them, all three of them including my brother, ran for their lives.

Thus he stood alive but haunted by what he saw.

Even now he gets nightmares about the creature in the abandoned house.

It's been 8 months now.

I guess sometimes it's better to not figure out if the story you've been hearing about, the talk of the town if it is real or not.

Some rumours should be left as rumours, some places should be left undisturbed. You shouldn't be curious beyond what's worth.

It could either cost you your life or scar you for the rest of your life.
