Thanks for the chapter! Maybe it is not cancelling gravity but instead cancels all outside forces that is not a solid. And so there is no air resistance and it is why it can accelerate so quickly. It allows outside forces but only like if it hits something and is big enough to effect it, so it cancels out all noncontact forces like gravity and magnetism and some contact forces if it is small enough within a certain limit and since the air resistance is less than the limit it just ignores it.
