These people receive glory and wealth as they battle, and this causes them to be very corrupted. Harpoonist are ranked by stars and each star is equal to a hundred monsters slain by a individual harpoonist. some harpoonist don't make it past the the first two stars but the highest amount we have seen so far in the story is 6 stars shown by Teon Ma. Besides the normal stars granted for killing average sea monsters, there are two different kinds of stars that have been shown in the series that a harpoonist can earn. Red Star: This star is granted to harpoonists who have slayed a leviathan also called Seven Sea Devils and is tattooed above the Harpoonists mark. Blue Star: This star is granted to harpoonists who participated in the battle that killed the queen of all sea monsters and leviathans. Sea monsters are the primary threats in the series. These creatures seem to be predators that eat any animal but seem to go for humans rather than other sea creatures. They are categorized by different types, but not much is known about this categorization. There are no concrete abilities we can attribute to all sea monsters, but we do know they are very deadly. They swim fast underwater because of their biology and are able to kill and eat humans with little effort. They have great strength and can destroy stone structures and metal ships and have tough bodies that can tank bullets, harpoons, and other projectiles. Sea monsters, while deadly, come with some glaring weaknesses that allow humans to survive an encounter when any appear. While tough, they aren't immune to all attacks. Slashing and strong impact attacks are particularly good against them. Another weakness is their inability to come out during the day. Sunlight dries them out and kills any that aren't in water for a period of time. Some can stay above water longer than others, like the leviathans, but this is still a weakness to them.
